I just want to go back to school and not waste the 3 good years I spent there. I have 72 hours and a 3.1 GPA that I cant even transfer. I dont make that much money, so I cant pay them and my parents are more broke than I am. Do I have ANY legal avenues at all that I could pursue?

As long as you have that past due hold, the school WILL NOT release your transcript. Bankruptcy won't help either. They will not release that hold.

Your best bet is to see if your new school will let you in for a semester pending the receipt of your transcript. You will be eligible for aid at the new school (at the freshmen loan limit of $3500 for dependent student, $7500 independent) and any refund you receive, I recommend you use to pay off the balance and get your transcript at the end of the probationary basis. The admissions office can admit you probationarily (if that's a word) but it is totally up to their discretion.

Good luck.

You can probably declare bankruptcy which is the only legal way to get out of a debt

Work out a payment plan with the school they may be willing to work with you, slow money is better than no money that is unless they are charging you interest

A shot in the dark to get your transcript:

Try going in or calling early in the morning, at lunch time or late in the day which is most likely when students are there and may make a mistake giving you your transcript

Or

Try calling to get your transcript and say you have already set up a payment plan with the school and you are working on paying it off

I mean they are long shots, but you have nothing to lose

Your old school is holding your transcripts hostage? I didn't know they could do that... How about your husband... is he willing to work with the budget, give you a little to work with, pay the school back? How old are your kids? If they're in grade-school at least, is there a way you can get part-time work while they're in school?

How can you not get a loan? Well, what else are you suppose to do besides loan. That is the only way you can pay it off, or you can ask some close relatives.

if you are working maybe you can talk with your boss about a loan you can make weekly or monthly payment arangements with him or her and they could deduct it from your paychecks. they might be sympathetic to your situation. it doesn't hurt to ask. the worst that could happen they could say no but at least you asked. i hope this works out for you. good luck.

well,i would advise you ask the school to give you work study aid, that way you could be working for the school while your still taking classes
