My wife suffers from persistent migraines. I mean, almost daily, frequent emergency room visits, the worst.

Over the last 15 years she's tried amost everything the neurology profession could think of, with no help.

I'm wondering: is there anything "new" out there that chronic migraine sufferers have had success with? Thanks.

First thing, she needs to stop with the ER visits. I have to assume that by going there she is getting narcotic drugs. That may dull the pain, but it also causes rebound headaches, which are more painful than the initial one in most cases.

Has she tried meditation? Diet changes? Chiropractor? Psychiatry? Increased her magnesium intake? Acupuncture?

There are many all-natural remedies out there that may be worth giving a shot. Just do a quick search for "natural headache relief" and see what you can find. Good luck.

Not sure what you mean "New" Since you didn't give a year. The one thing that i'm taking is a Migraine Preventative Medication called Topamax. I use to get migraines 4-6 times a week and now Its its not that many at all. Here is a website that maybe benficial for you and your wife: http://forums.healthcentral.com/discussion/migraine/forums
They may have some suggestion's for you to try or what to do and so on. It is a great support group to join for migraine suffer's!

The other thing I noticed that was causeing my many migraines was a side effect to a medication. So i'm no longer taking that anymore and food trigger's.

I have had relative sucess with the drug Maxalt-she may have tried it already-also i started taking magnesium as a preventative-this seems to have helped as well as i dont get nearly as many migraines as i used to-research has shown that a majority of migraine sufferers have a magnesium defiecienty. she can also try feverfew-or fish oil as they can help prevent them as well, but are needed totake for a while to benefit-i also use peppermeint cream and rub it on the back of my neck and temples and it sometimes helps as well-good luck-i can relate to the horrible pain

My doctor has used Prozac daily with me, and I have had great success. Prozac is used for things other than just depression. I used to get debilitating migraines (hereditary ones) up to 3 times a week, so traditional meds weren't for me. The Prozac has made all the difference in the world.

many chronic migraine sufferers get relief from chiropractic medicine. I suggest you give it a try, you have nothing to lose and possibly much to gain.

Enclosed is a link to Chiropractors in your area.
