I have one towel rack and one large towel on the towel rack. When I have a group of people over, the towel is almost always in some weird position as if its been removed and thrown around and then just casually place din the vicinity of the towel rack. Isn't this rude? Shouldn't the towel be in the same shape it was in when they got there, except maybe a little more wet, since they've used it to dry their hands?

The large towel on the towel rack should be in the same shape and position as it was found.... As the host you should provide hand towels to guests so the decorative towels are left to decorate...

Get a basket or other medium sized container and several hand towels.. roll the hand towels into sausage shapes and place several in the container in plain sight for guests to use.. Also place a receptacle near by for guests to deposit the soiled towels...

I usually fill the basket then remove and use 2 or so towels placing them in the soiled towel receptacle so the full basket clearly shows that towels should be used and the receptacle baskets use is also clear..

In this case both your guests and you have committed slight breeches of etiquette...

Another question answered by people with little or no clue. First of all, why in the world would ANYONE put in a towel bar made of PVC? So, people come in your bathroom and it screams, CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP! Considering that the average bathroom remodel runs near $10K, why would you do that? Secondly, a towel, even a wet one is not heavy enough to need a stud. Sorry, but properly installed, a towel bar will do just fine if you attach through the drywall. Sorry to come across as a jerk, but those of you who said this are simply wrong. I do bathroom remodels for a living, I am good at it , and I have NEVER been called back to a house for a towel bar coming off the wall. Unless you can match these credentials, then you can't disagree. Here's how to solve this. First of all, use some spackle to repair the existing holes. It may need a couple of coats of spackle. Sand it smooth, prime, and repaint. If you can still see the indentations from the holes after priming, spackle and sand again and do the whole process over. This should only take a day or two at the most. Next, go to Home Depot, Lowes, or similar or your local hardware store and get some screw in wall anchors. They are made of plastic, have a drill auger at the end and once the auger gets through the drywall, the anchor then has LARGE threads that screw directly into the drywall. The only way to do this properly is to use a drill/driver or an impact driver. When installing these anchors, move the towel bar an inch or so away from the patch you made so you are screwing into new drywall, not the patch. Two inches is even better. If you do this, you won't have any more problems. You can hang planters off the thing.

I know when I'm at someone's house, I don't dry my hands on any large towel that might be hanging. Who knows if someone used that towel after a shower and dried their a s s off with it? Just put out some clean hand towels, and people will use those.
I don't think it's worth complaining about how they left the towel hanging on the rack.

There will always be people, usually guys, who will use the towel and just let it hang how ever. Frequently it will also be dirty, like they just wet their hands and actually wiped them off on the towel. At least they washed their hands. Why don't you put out little hand towels instead of a big bath towel. I've been in people's bathrooms that had paper towel holders that I was greateful to use rather than wiping my hands on a dirty towel that other people had been using.

Leave a suitable number( according to the number of the guests) of small hand towels of linen if possible nicely organized. Next to them leave a small basket so that the used towels could be put. Guests should not fold the used towels, instead they should clearly indicate that they were used. This is what etiquette requires.
If however the hostess leaves one normal size towel it should be left the same way it was originally after being used.

I think a small wicker basket with color towels will be excellent in the bathroom. if the space is small...have paper towels in a cover holder that allows the paper towels to be removed. It is very rude to use people towels. Get them engraved and people may get the picture. I have a rack towel with toels and no laundry basket. This causes people to think twice before using display towels. If this becomes a big habit allow them to use the kiddy bathroom. They will stop it.

Yes it should be. What in the world do your guests do with the towel before they dry their hands??? I don't have trouble drying my hands with the towel still in place.

Yes, it should be. Whenever I use the bathroom in someones house, I leave the towel as I found it.

Chill out....I'd say after they leave throw those towels in the dirty clothes anyway. No, people usually aren't too observant at other people's houses that way. Don't sweat it.

Some people are inconsiderate of other's property. That would explain some of it. Maybe if there are alot of people using it, they think it is wet and disgusting so they "pay you back" by throwing it wherever they want to. Human nature is a strange thing.
At least they are washing their hands. Right?
