Of course we do, as long as they are minors.
Pretty simple.

Of course the do. I control my kids use of it certainly. What that means is that the use of the computers and the internet is under my control and I decide if and when the kids can get on and what they can or cannot do once they do. It's not only a parent's right but their obligation as well.
Now some of the kids may say that they would just find a way to use a computer else where and that is true. However, if my child did do so against my wishes then they would find their lives very restricted. I would take away the cell phone, remove the regular phone privelidges and take away their car keys (if they happen to be driving) even if they are paying for the car themselves (which my kids have to).
You see.. it is a parents duty to do all they feel is necessary to protect and teach their kids. A big portion of these life lessons has to do with responsiblity with accountablity and adhereing the rules of life.
Hope this answers the question.

If under 18 yes, and I guess if they are paying any part of the bills that allow the child to access it then yes (ie 19 and still living at home) but also I am sure the parents have the child's best interest in mind, because allot of kids are flat STUPID when it comes to myspace, I have taken students that went to the school I worked at (to prove a point to get it blocked) taken only a little bit of info like there school and grad year and found there schedule, where they work and there and there friends cell phone number, along with a bunch of there pics.

Yes. As a parent, they can control what their child does on the internet with constant supervision. A child legally has no rights until they turn 18.

It is governments job to write the laws. If they don't, no one gets arrested, so in that sense yes it is governments responsibility. It doesn't require that the government tap into your computer until you get caught. If you get caught they will check out your computer, but then they get warrants for everything. I must know, and be a different parent than you know, if our kids nag us we tell them we are the parents and they are the kids and if they don't quit they will lose computer time altogether. You aren't being asked to give up any freedoms, and unless you are downloading kiddie porn its not a problem, and if you are...I don't care. When small cameras were first developed there was a rash of perverts going to malls and shooting up ladies skirts with their cameras. There was no law against it, and the women, when they found out were mortified, the police couldn't even arrest them because the law hadn't kept up with the technology. With all the tech changes it makes sense to keep up with them legally so those crimes don't fall between the cracks.

Yes, until you are 18 they can do pretty much anything as long as they aren't starving or beating you. The use of the internet would be a privledge made available by the parents and so they controll who accesses it. And minors need to be protected from themselves at times on social networking sites which are more adult themed.

They certainly do. In fact, since the parents are legally responsible for the child, it is their duty to do so. As to the poster who mentions emancipation, the courts usually do not grant emancipation unless the child has an income and the parents are trying to waste it.

Um, yes. Until you are 18 and move out of their house, they own you. If they don't want you on MySpace, they can restrict you from it legally. Of course, if you are completely unhappy about it, you can always take them to court and request emancipation, which means you will legally be considered an adult and be able to make all of your own choices. You'll also have to get a job, find your own place to live, and pay your own bills.
