Literally, their bodies were laid out (tied to a table) and cut in two pieces with a blade used for cutting trees, etc.....this was a time when the most painful death possible was the goal. Crucifiction was considered the worst, as it was extended for hours before death occurred. I recently saw a live demonstration of a healthy young man volunteering to be tied to a cross to see how long he could stand the positioning. He lasted 18 minutes before he was shaking all over from exhaustion and leg cramps and generalized pain and discomfort, whereupon he asked the man in charge of the experiment to take him down. Jesus hung there for hours after being beaten and losing what had to be a significant amount of blood via the whipping and the crown of thorns. Even after all this, we hear Him say, "Father forgive them, for they know not what they do." Truly, the greatest love story ever told.

rip apart, tear, rend ... as in, let no man put aside what God has joined together.

The true key? Has God actually joined (or, as with many who get married) has lust brought the two together?
