Why their records of abuse kept secret?

Can a damaged True Church need of Repair?

Can pedophilia be cured? Because many don't believe that it can occur. Many have no interest in even trying.

There was a time many years ago that the Church, out of a desire to be charitable, trusted the psychiatric community that said that pedophilia is a curable mental disease. They sent priests who were accused of this offense for treatment and when the psychiatrist pronounced the cured assigned them back to parishes. Since then it has been discovered that this is not a curable mental illness but instead is incurable. Since then the Church has taken a zero tolerance position for those who offend. Of course this was an error and hindsight is always 20/20.

It is interesting to note that the Catholic Church has the lowest incidence of this kind of offense of any clergy (8 times lower) and an even lower incidence than school teachers (less than two times lower).

So, the Church did not reassign priests for any sinister reasons but did so on bad advice from medical professionals.

That's what the lawsuits are about....

They kept it a secret because it was their own doctrines that create these situations. For thousands of years, if a person didn't have "normal" sexual desires, it was thought that they were destined for the priesthood, selected by God to serve.

But that's not always the case. Sometimes, it just means that you're a pedophile.
