okay...so if the bible is fact, then we are all decendants of adam and eve right? and if iam not mistaken, adam and eve had 2 children (Cain and Abel)...so how did we decend from that?
my boyfriend (who grew up with a pretty religious mother) and a friend of ours were talking about the bible friday night and he feels that none of it makes sense and that if you are smart you wouldnt believe in god (i dont think i agrgee with him on that) but they brought up the fact that there (in the bible) was a big flood (?) that wiped out everybody and that we are (according to the bible) decendants of Noah and not adam/eve...seeing as i have no knowledge of the bible can someone who is knowledgable about this stuff kind of explain it to me?

There's quite a bit of history between Adam and Eve and Noah. Most scholars believe that God created other people for Cain and Able to procreate with. Adam and Eve were just first. Then years passed, and the world was a mess, so God wiped it clean with the flood and saved Noah and his family. Noah had several married sons, so there were people left to descend from. Simple version.

I wasn't going to answer this but feel the need too given DuckPhup's missive above. First he doesn't have a clue so disregard everything he says.

Adam and Eve had more than two children, Cain, Abel and Seth are the ones mentioned by name.

4 And the days of Adam after he had begotten Seth were eight hundred years: and he begat sons and daughters: Gen 5:4 (KJV)

When God destroyed the earth by a flood only Noah, his wife, his sons and their wives were spared. Genesis Chapter 10 gives the genealogy of Noah back to Adam. Everyone therefore is descended from Adam through Noah and his family.

If you need further explanation just email me.

Yes Adam and Eve had Cain and Able. Cain did kill Able. then They had another son named Seth. Adam and Eve lived like 900 years or something crazy like that. They had many children and even girls. Today it is called incest ,but then man was not far from creation and birth defects were not an issue at the time. Much later in life genealogy of man,God said that man should no longer have more than one wife.

Cain killed able, so the decedents of Cain are referred to as cainonites, and the decedents of Abel were supposedly of the "immortal" as were Adam and eve and pure an holy, and the cainites were not, they are to blame for all the evil in the world, and overpowered ables decedents, which is why the world is so full of evil. Cain was jealous of Abel and bashed his head in with a rock, Abel had a crop and was prosperous, while Cain was left to be a Shepperd, and poor. well, its been along time since i gave a sh*it about the bible, i used to read it just for the Knowledge aspect.

When you read the Bible, there could be Years (sometimes many!) between some sentences.
Time.
Exact dates aren't there for most stuff.
Then, did it say that Cain and Able were the first children of Adam and Eve?
There you go!
Then, did it say Adam and Eve were the First Human Beings on the Earth?
There you go again!

Noah was a descendant of Adam and Eve. Noah and his family were the only ones saved from the flood.

Not everyone God created names are in the Bible. If you are hung up on A&E just remember they were 1&2. The Bible says that the boys found their own wives. God made them for them. Genesis Chapter 4 tells the story. As far as Noah, same story, God made women for them too. He had to.

The Age Jesus came was the 5th Age and there were 40 years per generation. From Abraham until Jesus were 42 generations, or 6 Seasons.
The last 7 generations or Season made 49 generations in all.

Do you follow me. For every Age prior to that of Abraham start with 49 generations, but add

Is it possible that God exists and the Bible is largely a collection of stories?

(Bash away. I know. The Bible says it's the Word of God.)
