IRS only Direct Deposits current year tax returns. All other deliquent years you are just now filing the refund will only be mailed to you.

Of course there is a space there for you to put your bank account number, but that is for filing on time returns only.

There could have been something wrong with the numbers for direct deposit or the computer on their end could have misunderstood a command. We had a similar thing actually. Our federal was direct deposited, but the state came as a check in the mail... go figure!
