I have been having pains in the right side of my head for the last 4-5 days. It is always in the same place, kind of above my ear and toward the front. It doesn't last long but when it happens it really hurts. I have taken Motrin for it and it usually helps. I am taking thyroid meds, but this pretty much just started and I have been on the Thy. meds for 4 years. I am not sure if I need to go to the doctor or not. My husband gets really freaked out about this kind of stuff, so I can't ask him what he thinks I should do. If it is a type of Migrain then I can handle that. I just want to know what is causing it. I get headaches alot, but not like this. Thanks for any info anyone can share.

the location you have described is the joint of the jaw. You could be suffering from TMJ. You would have to see a dentist to get this diagnosed.

For now place a heating pad on the area for fifteen minutes. Afterwords apply ice as follows: Place clean tap water into a foam cup and place in your freezer until it is completely frozen. Peel back a small amount of the top of the cup and massage this onto area of pain using constant circular motion. DO NOT hold the ice in one area for more than 3 minutes since this may cause frostbite. Cold therapy should be stopped once the skin feels numb.

Repeat this several times a day.

If its near your temple it could also be a migraine. If your seeing colors/streaks its a migraine with aura. I get these all the time and they suck because you get the constant pain and then bang you get an intense throbbing pain that comes and goes but damn near brings you to your knees. Dark cool room, cold compress to the back of the neck

It might be a sinus headache- or it might be a migraine, though migraines tend to be a bit more wide-spread. If this has just started, though, you might want to see a doctor and make sure there are no nasty little surprises there.

Good luck!

Kind of sounds like migraines. You might want to be checked out by a Chiropractor from your insurance list.
