I'm being objective & scientific. You must know how Pougachev cobra manuver is like, before you answer. It's 1 of the most difficult manuvers, from level flight nose up to 105-115 degree AoA for a few seconds, then nose returning back to level flight. I believe Sukhoi Su-27 (Su-30 & so on) is THE ONLY aircraft that can do such manuver. F-22, F-35, and all X-planes, perhaps all other aircraft in the world (including aerobatic) CAN NOT do this Pougachev cobra manuver (i'm 99% sure).

There are several aircraft apart from the Flanker family that can execute the Cobra from horizontal flight. I consider it as engine feature rather than an airframe feature, if the engine can spin at high AoA (120°) and has enough thrust to regain lost momentum, almost any fighter aircraft can do it. I've seen the MiG-29 do it from a 30° climb and a couple of months ago, the MiG-35 doing it from level flight (It did a lot more!!!)

For the record the F/A-22, F/A-18E/F and the MiG-35 are the regular aircraft apart from the Flanker family that can do the maneuver. And it wouldnt be too much to assume that TVC aircraft like Su-47 'Berkut', MiG 1.42, F-15 ACTIVE, F-16 MATV/VISTA, and NASA's X-31 could execute the cobra maneuver.

The Pougachev manuver was found by russian pilots to confuse radar as the aircraft stalls momentarily and stops all movement, the radar loses lock and goes berserk for a few seconds trying to relock on its target. The F-22 can do this maneuver due to its high thrust to weight ratio and thrust vectoring exhaust. The X type of aircraft that you describe can also do this maneuver, but other than the F-22 no other aircraft can do this maneuver. At least to public knowledge, no telling what they have at Groom lake, or White Sands.

I went to wikipedia I found a video clip (it was on the page describing the Pugachev Cobra) with the F-22 doing the Cobra. Wikipedia is saying that modifications may be needed to the air intake to perform the task.

The X-35 can do a Pougachev Cobra, but there were only two of them made.

The new Extra 300 can do it as well as the Zivko Edge.
It takes many hours of practise to get the manoeuvre down pat.

Most of my paper airplanes do that pretty well. But then they crash.
