I have brushes, palattes, I bought acetone to use as paint thinner. I wasn't sure about that.
What about clean up?
I am only familiar with watercolors and acrylics.

Use acetone only to thin your paint when you need it to dry quick. It evaporates very fast and even experienced painter hardly ever use it.

Make a sketch on your canvas or board and do a first layer in acrylics. This dries quick and you can get to 'the real work' the sane day instead of having to wait a week.

Go at it the same way you would as when you would use wet acrylics. Use a pallet knife to remove paint if you don't like a part and start again. Don't keep adding paint in the hope it will work out. It will only get messy.

Find some local classes, rec center, cont ed. or a good commercial book.
NO ACETONE, artist turpentine, not hardware store turpentine.

Do NOT use your other brushes in the oils. Use only oil bruses in oils, oils will ruin brushes for acrylics and w/c.
Oils can be thick or thin, just whatever technique you like. They do need a good surface, canvas that has been primed or masonite that has been primed.

Acetone is a no no for oil painting it will eat your brushes and your lungs my dear artist's refined turps is o.k. but the vapors are also harmful use plenty of ventilation no matter what solvent you use ! I use oderless paint thinner. Art supply stores have it and some hardware brands are o.k. Turpenoid is a paint thinner that i use in place of turpentine for thinning the paint .The regular oderless thinner for brushes.Grumtine is also good when thinning paint or removing dried on stuff.

I don't know about the acetone, I used turpentine. Check around for some art classes through adult education (or continuing education) at schools in your area, your parks department may offer classes, or just go to the library check out some books and do your own thing. You could go to an art supply store and ask them for pointers. What a lavish gift! Good luck!
