Hi I am doing an engine swap in my car. The new engine is a smog-legal gas/petrol engine. but my old engine is registered as a Diesel engine.
How do I change my registration to reflect its now a petrol engine, and get it certified / smogged as legal to drive once the swap is complete ?
thanks

You will need to take your info to the DMV and have your title reissued with the correct info. I'm guessing you need to go to the emission site, and test first. Once you pass, take that info, along with the engine info, and your title, to the DMV.

well, nothing is easy in Califonrnia...

First you should go there to find out what will be required. Calls are not answered and their website doesn not have that information and the 'automated q &a' section will give you an answer of either "Green" or "Running Frosty" or something equally unresponsive.

So.. once you find out what you have to do.. go do it, and come back to the land of 'wait in line' and pay your money and get it done.

Orrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr................

You can just ignore it.. If your car is 1976 or older you could put live mice in there for the motor train and the DMV wouldn't care.

i wouldn't do anything but just switch out the engine, in good old Cali its probably going to a huge hassle
