How many turbos could a Ford Mustang (2000) hold before the compression rate is too high for the engine?

The number of turbos is irrelevnant (I've seen a 4 turbo setup but that is probably out of your price range). As the previous poster mentioned it has to do with the PSI of the boost.
If you do not have in intercooler stay below 8 psi for a stock engine, below 12 for high performance engines.
With an intercooler you can run 15psi stock and 20 high performance. Intercoolers keep turbos from burning up so don't chance higher psi pressure without one.

The number of turbos has to do with when they activate, typical setups are 2, one for low rpm and one for high rpm. Turbos work by sensing exhaust pressure and when they spin up they force air through the intake and shove it into the engine.

The number of turbos doesn't matter it is the boost pressure that makes a difference. I doubt if you want to run anything over 7lbs boost with an otherwise stock setup. good luck

on turbo can supple more than enough pressure, you use 2 to increase the volume, excetera
