I dont believe we are created evil nor do I believe we are punished for what our forefathers have done.

These concepts are in primitive cultures and pagan religions..... not the Abrahamic religions.

Agreed. As this god is supposedly omnipotent, he would've know what would've happened in eden before he ever created anything. It's all illogical....exactly why I don't buy any of it.

There are few points of your question that seem to beg comment.

Firstly, Christianity IS an Abrahamic religion…the concepts you talk about (and dismiss as being “stories made up around the purpose of Jesus”) are very important pieces of Christianity. You say these key factors are concepts of primitive cultures and pagan religions, not Abrahamic religions…but these ARE concepts of an Abrahamic religion!

Finally, you seem to disassociate primitive cultures from Abrahamic religions. Maybe I’m wrong, but cultures where people pray to rocks, brutally murder rape victims for having been so sinful as to have been raped (!!) yet do not punish the rapists, strap bombs on themselves in order to blow up worshippers of the same faith over a murder that took place well over a millennia ago, etc., etc., do little to dissociate themselves from primitiveness. And yet this description identifies many cultures that follow another Abrahamic religion.

In answer to your question, yes, if it could be done, debunking the “original sin” would be a serious blow to Christianity.

I don't believe sin is as bad as portrayed by religions. Sin is an inevitable byproduct of creation or, should I say, the fusion of material and spiritual energy. The purity of the two, upon fusion, were compromise, thus a hybrid is created called souls. It is that part spirit wanting to get in touch of its material essence and mistakenly assumed only to be wholly material energy, thus sins/errors/mistakes happen. Our challenge is think and live up our spiritual qualities while entrapped in the material energy before the latter could no longer sustain the momentum of the former. Spirit is constant. Matter undergoes change, therefore it gets old and dies in the end. Religions use sysmbols and icons to explain the spiritual way of life. But basically it's the same about doing the right thing.

The concept of original sin was invented by Augustine of Hippo near the end of the 4th century AD. For that and the invention of the immortal soul, the early church canonized him, Saint Augustine. (Jesus first promised immortal life, but St. Augustine explained how it supposedly works.) Original sin was an entirely Christian perversion until it spread to Islam and formed the theological basis for why Muslim women are so poorly regarded within their own civilization. Of the Abrahamic religions, only the Jewish don't follow the doctrine of original sin.

Know anyone without sin? Original sin is simply that sin and death entered the world. We know that to be true because there are no perfect people and we all do die. The purpose of the atonement is that man fell from the glory of a righteous God. When we sin we can no longer be joined to God as he is righteous and is not joined to sin. It is the reason that the wages of sin is death. It is the reason Christ came to the world as a man to overcome temptation and remain perfect and pay the penalty of death for those who accept his atonement.EDIT Not the Abrahamic belief???????? Apparently you are reading something that is not from the God of Abraham..What did Abraham say when he was offering Issac as a sacrifice? Abraham named the place Jehova jireh The lord will provide because it is where he said the lord would provide himeslf a lamb....Did Abraham believe in the atonement...OBVIOUSLY!!!!!!!! This is exactly what the Abrhamic belief is.

I don't believe in "original sin". I believe I will be punished for my own sins. So if it were "debunked" the mission of Jesus would remain the same for me.

On another note, many people are "punished" for the acts of their forefathers. Children who were raised by abusive parents are often abusive themselves.

Whether is is the sins of Adam or the sins of Johnny Whatshisface, nothing affects Jesus' purpose because people keep on sinning.

Original sin, if it were debunked - and the Catholic Church will never give it up - will only change what baptism does.

No these are not pagan in nature at all. Pagan gods are never said to have created humans...they only rule over humans and therefore humans are to please them to avoid punishment. This is not our God nor is it the concept of original sin.

We aren't created evil...we are conceived in sin...which means we have the capacity to do evil and we need a savior. Without sin...there is no need to be saved. Just like your parents give you the color of your hair, your skin, even personality traits...so they give you their flesh...and that is our sin. It is genetic and the sins of the father will be visited upon the children.

Thankfully, God is merciful and sent his son to be our sacrifice.

The fact that you don't believe something does not "debunk" it nor does your opinion of a given concept support or defend it. It is simply your uninformed, uneducated opinion.

Well said, if you don't buy into the Adam and Eve myth, there's no reason for redemption. I can't see how someone can believe evolution anf the redemption story, they are incompatible, yet some do

How can something be "debunked" that has already been prophetically fulfilled and testified to by over 500 eye-witnesses? Sin is no longer the problem since the remedy has been given--it is faith.
