MJ was the most influential player in the sport to date. He was not only a tremendous player but he got everyone talking about basketball again. Everyone knows his name and who he is, even people who have never seen a basketball game.
I think that to measure a bballer you can't look at one aspect alone. You need to look at not only his skill but things like how he got along with teammates/rival players, his impact on basketball economical, and how he gave back to the sport. He did all of these things and much more so I say he is the greatest Basketball player ever but I'm not an atheist, so?

Pistol Pete scored like [45] a game at LSU #1 all time
Jordan scored like [35] a game at UNC #2 all time
Pistol was the first to wear his nick name on his pro jersey, no pro championships
Jordan had a fall a way jump shot,
and 6 champions I think
I still think that [[[Pistol[[[ was more fun to watch,
kinda like Jordan and Dr. J mixed together, or that little white guard that plays in Miami and Jordan
23 James is getting there I think

Hmmm, tough. I'd see Bird, Jabar, Russell and Magic in there as well - but for pure ability and showmanship, MJ rules.

I would argue that Bill Russel is and it's simple reasoning. Jackie Robinson told his wife to ask Bill Russel to be his pall bearer, why? because Bill Russel was Jackie Robinson's hero. Bill Russel's answer to Jackie Robinson's wife "How could anyone be Jackie Robinson's hero?"
