Take a q-tip and put a small dab of Polysporin or triple antibiotic ointment on the sore twice daily and if it is an infection it should be better within a week. If it has not improved then see a dermatologist or Ear, Nose & Throat Dr for a better evaluation. It could be a polyp, infection, herpes, basal cell or another type of cancer. Cancer is low on the list compared to numerous other common ailments of the nose.

Although this has never happened to my dog, I do know that a dog's nose will start to go pink from sun damage and may eventually get cancer. However, I did see an episode of 'Better Homes and Gardens' and Dr Harry Cooper said that putting non-toxic sunscreen on a dogs (he did it to a husky) nose should just like humans, stop it from burning and help prevent skin cancer.

Yeap, it's possible to get skin cancer up your nose.
"Squamous cell carcinoma seen on areas of the body that have been exposed to excessive sun (nose, lower lip, hands and forehead). Often this cancer appears as a firm red bump or ulceration of the skin that does not heal. Squamous cell carcinomas can spread to lymph nodes in the area."
(cite from "www.smile.org.au")
Some suggestions:
1. visit "www.smile.org.au" -- a huge database about symptoms, causes, preventions and effects of cancers, as well as a wide range of cancer therapies.
2. Visit a specialty doctor to do a health check for you.

could easily be a cold sore (herpes) that has broken out in that tender spot. Give it three weeks to heal. If not, then see a doctor. While you can get cancer anywhere there is living tissue, three weeks will not make a difference in diagnosis and it may just clear up.
