It turns God's name into an expletive. For that reason alone, I find it the most offensive obscenity anyone can utter. The same thing with using "Jesus Christ" as an exclamation. And I believe it should be a matter of decent social graces that, even if a person doesn't share the same reverence as others for the name of God, that out of respect for others they should refrain from using it. I can not imagine why, knowing it violates the third of the Ten Commandments, some person started using that word. Unless they meant to offend someone.

Because it includes the word god. Some people think that god in and of itself is a swear and shouldn't be taken in vain---after all it is a commandment. and when you combine the two words it makes it sound as if god is damning you which is like the worst thing that could ever happen. People are stupid--they need to realize that these are only words and people are not bad for saying them---after all we are people

I think that using God in the phrase is offensive to religious people and that is why it is considered more vulgar.

Mostly because it is considered offensive to some religions. It is said more in a vain sense then anything else.

Its more offensive because its related to religion..the majority of the population believe in god so they are offended by it since one of the commandments is to not take the lords name in vain

just as burglar as all the others but I don't have a religion. I think people think of it as bad because you add the God in the beginning and that makes it sound worse!!!
