I used to be like that.... you need to change you diet in small steps. First step is to get rid of those cookies (includes all white breads, sugary treats. Not only will these foods cause you to gain weight, they can cause serious health issues like diabetes in the future). You can continue to eat lean chicken, fish, whole grains or high fibre cereal, milk, yogurt, raw nuts... allow yourself an unlimited quota of fruits and veggies to start with.
Once you are comfortable with this diet, you can start counting calories. Calories are the key to losing weight... and although the foods I mentioned above are good for you, they can add up calories. You can use a calorie counter to keep track of your calories. http://www.mypyramidtracker.gov/Default.htm
Reduce 500 calories from what you would normally eat in a day... But don't go below 1500 calories a day.
Oh and I forgot the most important point: excercise atleast 20 minutes a day... doesn't have to be too intense, but if you can do it, go for it.

You need to find something to keep busy so you dont think about food. A lot of times if a person just drinks a glass of water before eating it will stop you feeling hungry for awhile but mostly a person just needs things to do. Read, draw, color a poster, play games, write letters or e-mails or find some kind of craft to do . Usually eating happens cause we're bored and food will make us feel good. But only for a little while. Having a goal and accomplishing something can be just as rewarding and feel just as good. Eating the cucumber sounds like a good snack . Fruits and vegetables are good for you and will probably help you lose weight. Eat the cookies in moderation. One or two occasionally is ok. Eleven is way too many.! Good luck!

Relax sweetheart, you are not alone. Food is addictive just like a lot of other "drugs" especially starches and sugars. We learn to medicate ourselves at a very early age and most of us were medicated by our mothers when they used food to "make it all better". The good thing here is that you absolutely understand and realize that you are using the food as a coping mechanism. Trust me, pickles and cucumbers are pretty healthy medications:) I could tell you some stories of eating that would make you feel like I was a mad man. What we need to be careful with now, especially females, (I don't mean that to sound bad) but females tend to over compensate with the overeating by going in the complete opposite direction and can easily find themselves being anoexic or bulemic.) Like I said, I am so proud that at age 13 you are mature enough to realize that something is out of whack here. In just about every city no matter how large or small you can find some meetings for overeaters, OA or overeaters anonymous. Look in the phone book or newspaper. If you can't find one, you will surely find the alcholics anonymous number and anyone there will be more than happy to guide you to an OA meeting. At least try it, go a nd listen. You don't have to talk if you don't want but you will see if what thsoe people are saying is you or not. If so you may find it useful to attend more if it's not for you then so be it. At the library there are tons of books on the subject. One that I read was called, "Sick and tired of being sick and Tired." That is a good place to start. Don't worry about what other people think. Don't tell anyone if you don't want too and don't worry, nobody at any of the meetings will laugh at you, I promise. At 13 you can fix this quickly and easily and again, at 13 you must be a pretty smart person to have figured out that some changes may be needed in your life. Good luck and please feel free to email me at any time if you have more questions. You will be just fine, okay:)

there must be a reason behind ur addiction, do u think u are under emotional stress? when i get stressed i tend to look for comfort in food, i fill my face even though i am not hungry. it is a way of comforting myself at bad times. this is a very bad habit as it has adverse results not just on how our body looks, but on our health too. you are young, you will lose weight in no time, the more u grow up the longer it takes to lose weight. everytime u feel a craving for food, look for fruits, or veggies. munch on a carrot, or a cucumber or an apple. think of it this way, u wanna fill a gap, why do u fill it with something fatful when u can fill it with something healthy? believe me, at first it will be very hard to change ur habits, but the feeling u will get after substituting the bad foods with the good ones, is worth it. as for working out u don't have to go to a gym to do that, move around the house go up and down the stairs be active, help around in cleaning, u won't believe the amount of calories burned by doing housework. And always remember this quote " He who moves the mountain is he who starts by moving little stones" so don't worry if it takes a bit of time, better sooner than later.

I have so much good news for you. First of all, you're young. Losing weight is going to be easier than if you were older. Secondly, it sounds like you like fruits and vegetables, which is great. Thirdly, you have access to a gym. Fourth, you're not that heavy to begin with. This means you can lose weight no problem at all! You have to understand why you're eating. Is it because you're bored? Because you're sad? Angry? Only eat when you're HUNGRY. Think before you put something in your mouth. Why am I eating this? Is this going to help my body or hurt it? If the answer is hurt it, you have to put it down. The trouble is that though it's pretty easy not to eat something, it's easier just to eat it. You have to stay focused all the time. When I get into a bad mood and am about to put a french fry into my mouth, it's usually because i'm trying to numb other feelings i'm having. I have to tell myself to focus. Forget all the other feelings and just concentrate on your future self with your perfect body.

It sounds like you are partially eating as a habit. Eat lots of raw fruits and vegetables. Try to keep busy, so you don't eat for something to do.
