It is a severe inflammation of the intestine, known also as regional ileitis, named after the American physician Burrill Crohon. Actually it is the inflammation of part of the intestine, called Ileum, the lower section of the small intestine.
Typical symptoms are pain on the right side of the lower abdomen, attacks of diarrhoea alternating with constipation, poor appetite and loss of weight. It can respond to drugs but somtimes surgery is necessary to remove or bypass the inflamed section of the intestine.

Crohns disease is where the intestine or walls of the intestine try to digest itself. It is not known why but is often treated with steroids.
Ulcers are caused with in the walls of the intestine and bleeding from the butt will often occur leaving a persons blood count to go down and feeling weak.
My ex has it and it occurred soon after she quit smoking. While she was in the hospital she was getting weaker and weaker and I thought it had something to do with her smoking. I talked to her doctor and he was up for anything at this point so he told her to smoke in the bathroom.
It seemed to help and she was getting better. She still has the disease but she has not had a relapse like that in years.
