To get high. I used to use prescription meds like this and quickly ended screwing up lots of things in my life. A co-workers wife recently got out of rehab for similar reason. She started out doing the same things and then ended up on herion.
I don't know medically what it does to him, but I can guarantee you that its nothing beneficial.

I don't know your friend so I'm not going to make any judgements on him, but some people might do this to get "high". Valium is a sedative and that affect could be increased by alcohol; Ritalin is amphetamine based and is a stimulant so that could get a person "high" in some cases.
Now, lets say that this medication belongs to the person who is snorting it and they use it for the prescribed reason, snorting it would make it absorb faster, and in turn it would start "working" at a faster rate. However, snorting anything up your nose does damage over time.
So, take your pick...does your friend do stupid things like try to get high off someone else's medication? or does he have anxiety (Valium) issues, or ADHD (Ritalin)?

It's like main lining. If they let it disolve under their tonges, they'd get the same effect. Also, they would get the effects immediately instead of waiting for it to kick in if taken orally. It's like nitro( for someone whose having a heart attack) goes under the tonge for that reason. But the pill probably tastes bad.Your nose is a mucus membrane & you can get the full effect that way from the med w/out having it go through the acids in the stomache 1st. Some people have higher concentrations of stomache acids, meds are eaten up before whats left goes into there blood stream. It may appear to them or their dr.s that they may need a higher dose when they really don't.Also, they probably do get a rush, those meds were not made to be snorted. And if their doses are correct(strong enough to by-pass stom.acids)then they are flirting w/danger.They can o.d.

It is a faster entry to the blood stream. Extremely dangerous. Errodes nose passages and all kinds of vital organs toward breathing. Via the stomach takes longer. I suggest u tell your Mom to tell his to lock the medicine cabinet and monitor his taking of Ritalin. It's all lethal under the wrong dosage and could react to body parts they don't even know were in trouble. Bad scene dude.

Ritalin is known as poor man's cocaine. Which is exactly how the drug works in a person without ADD or ADHD.
Valium is a sedative.
Both very dangerous & very stupid to fool around with.

because a great many people out there are just plain stupid.
"snorting" any drug, intended to be ingested, can get you dead in a hurry. Your friend does it because he gets high, he gets a buzz, won't he be surprised when one of these days he gets dead?
