Californians love their independence by driving cars. Compare this with someone who lives in Manhattan, New York. Suburbs and 'cheap' gas encourages Californians to drive everywhere instead of taking mass transit. This is just one factor however.
More light rail systems and high speed rail systems should help in the future.

Very simple just look up plants and photosynthesis. Also realize that plants need CO2 as much as u need oxygen . Our life complements the other life.
