Most who would say they dislike officers is because of a bad interaction with them!
Police don't swear an oath to write tickets or arrest just the ones they want to! They swear an oath to uphold all the laws of their state without regard to race, religion, or sex!
There are good and bad apples in EVERY walk of life or profession. The difference is that officers MUST be held to a higher standard of honesty and integrity because of the powers of their profession. Sure I've seen an officer or two that has maintained an "attitude" but after the "rookie" spent a week or two with the Field Training Officer, they learned!
This "attitude" is not to be mistaken for an officer who seems to be "unfriendly" while they've stopped you for a violation. The "unfriendliness" is a "caution mode" maintained by the officer who has no clue who the violator is and if THIS is the one that's going to pull a concealed gun!
You'd be surprised at how cordial an officer is when you simply approach them and give them a word or two of encouragement instead of a spit in the eye!
Thank you for bringing this issue out where officers like myself can read the responses of those who do care!
Consider the bad responses of those who are too immature to admit that it's not the officers fault the violator got caught breaking the laws the people make!

I think most police officers do a good job but I was friends with this Lieutenant(I think he may be a Captain now) but anyway, he should have his badge and gun taken away. I can't even get into the whole story because I will only just get angry but basically I was being harassed by his ex wife and he did nothing about after telling him about it many times. He always said that he would take care of it but he never did anything. He was afraid that she would do something that would get him in trouble at his job which she did that anyway...many many many times. When I first met him, I thought he was kind, funny and very handsome but as I got to know him I kept finding out all of these really horrible things about him. He would lie and say they were not true but I found out other wise. He is untrustworthy, a compulsive liar and a pervert. I also think he is on the DL. I just don't think that a person like that should be in law enforcement but kudos to the cops that do the right thing.

It depends on which side you're on. As a teen, I hate cops and give them a dirty look whenever I see them. Now that I am an adult, I can understand that they got into the business because they truly wanted to change the world one person at a time. I totally agree with you on how they can put up with trying to help people when all they get from the people that they help is ungratefulness.
Police officers or not, they are still human and human are prone to having faults.

I don't want to generalize. Most of them are just doing their jobs.
But I have had some bad experiences with some.
The worst was outside of Houston. A cop searched my car (I had a Mercedes then) and then searched me personally. And I do mean personally.
He seemed to be under the impression that I was "smuggling" drugs (can you imagine?) and I have never even jaywalked, let alone do something like that. It wasn't in any way legal what he did let alone moral.
It was the most humiliating experience of my life.
After that I HATED cops.
But life is funny. My current husband USED TO BE A COP and in NEW YORK, no less. In fact, he only stopped because he left the city to come and take care of his mother and they didn't need any more police in the little town (more like a village) they lived in...
He told me all about police procedure, stress, etc and it really explained a lot to me.
He advised me that yes, police have meatheads, just like every other profession, and reminded me of their humanity.
I met other policemen, even some of his buddies all the way from New York, and it was different.

i am married to a former police officer. Most of our friends are in the law enforcement line of work. The brotherhood and bonds they form are amazing. It takes a special type of person to put up with stupid people on a daily basis. Also, the officers themselves are human and should be treated with respect and dignity.

I respect cops, but I can't say that I like all of them. I've been arrested, more than once(D.U.S., not alcohol related) and have been treated fairly, especially considering that I was breaking the law, and once I even got short tempered. For the most part, they understood that it was not that I wanted to break the law, but in order to get my license back I had to pay the fine, to pay the fine I had to work, to get to work I had to drive. One cop asked me why I didn't get a different vehicle because "every one of us knows your car now and it would save you getting pulled over." Very nice of him, but as I explained, if I'd had that kind of money I would've just got my license back!!! Eventually, I did get my license back, but continued to get pulled over for awhile, without exception, all the cops that pulled me over congratulated me, and seemed genuinely happy that I had fixed the mess. One even radioed the jailer who had booked me in so many times, and HE wished me luck!
They don't have an easy job, and they never know who may pull a weapon, or do something stupid, so they have to be guarded. Of course, I also have a lot of friends who are cops, and I know they mostly just do the best they can. If you treat them decently, they will usually return the favor!

There are some good ones and bad ones. There are some that shouldn't be cops, but I respect them and what they do. With a few small exceptions, they would all drop their attitude and step up when called to do so. I am VERY proud of my husband everyday when he puts his life on the line to keep me, our children and our community safe. He is my hero and our children look up to him very much. He is a wonderful man with outstanding character, I couldn't be more proud to call him my husband.

I like police officers and thank the Lord for them! If you've ever been to a place like South Africa, you'd kiss the next police officer you saw!
Well, my cousin's ex is a police officer and I don't care for him much but that's different. lol

I like them , there are some that giving all the police officers bad names, they don't think about the ones that are giving their lives for us. If you were a policeman and had to put up with what they do everyday even though it shouldn't be, it would make you be a little out of control yourself.
