My dress is knee-length and the wedding is quite formal. I am wearing strappy heels also. My mom says I should wear hosiery.

From a guy's point of view - the whole "it is ok to go bare leg" trend is wayyyy over done. Unless you are very young and have awesome super model legs - going without hose simply looks ugly! My friends and I can't understand how some of you women think you can get away without hosiery. Especially in this question where the wedding is "quite formal" according to the asker. I would agree if this was some casual event and her legs look great without. But the reality is that 90% of women simply don't have the legs to pull off that look (really!) and this is a FORMAL event.

If your wear strappy heels, do they strap up higher than the ankle and do they have an open toe? If so then go without the hose. If the shoes are comfortable without hose you can always get a spray on tan if you dont have time to go to a tanning salon. Tanned legs would look better without hose. If you absolutely have to wear hose, try the thigh highs or hose with a garter, dont go with pantyhose because those would be entirely too hot.

For a rather formal wedding, you wear hose. Just choose the kind according to what the shoe is like. Yes, these days lots of girls don't like to wear them, but it's more "dressed up" and sophisticated.

If you do wear hose, make sure it has a seemless toe, that way if you wear open toes, it doesn't look weird with teh two tone.

Nowwaday most women do not wear hose, but when I go to a formal event, I generally do. I don't know it is something about them that, to me, makes it more classy and formal

If you're wearing straps that tie around your calf muscle, then hose wouldn't look right, so in this case go bare. Otherwise hosery is a good idea for a formal wedding.

A formal event requires hose. Bare legs are appropriate for a garden party (maybe) or a picnic, but not a formal affair.

Are the shoes open-toed? If so, then no hosiery.

However, in defense of hosiery - while I hate them (A LOT!), they do give you a nice smooth line under your dress.

Regardless, this is a call that should be made by the bride. I say, ask her what her preference is.

Depends on the shoes. Are they open toe? If yes, then no. If they are closed toe, ask the bride what she prefers. Personally, I don't think hose look good with a knee-length dress.

Definitely not if the shoes are open-toed. I'd say if your legs look nice (unblemished), go without. It's perfectly acceptable now to go with bare legs.

Of course, ask the bride what she prefers.

no, i think hose is for older people who don't have nice legs. LOL. or for work. go bare skin. it's sexy, and trust me the attention won't be on you that day and why you didn't or did wear hose. it's may now and warm already. have fun. you may ask the bride too, she may have an opinion.
