cocktail hour is a time usually where your guests can arrive at the reception site and get some drinks and snacks while the bridal party is still taking pictures. It is also a time for everyone to mingel a little and greet each other since not everyone will be sitting at the same table... thus people that know each other may not have time to chat once dinner starts.

Way too much cocktail hour, people will be so full and so bombed, there won't be anyone at your wedding. If you can start it a few minutes before you might, or a least let people come in and sit down, that would be nice. Most people will go home, or go to a movie, or something to fill the time. Rivers went to a wedding that was exactly 1 hour from my house. And an hour back. Guess how long the break between the wedding and the reception was? Two hours, well it was supposed to be. It was more like three! And the reception was in a private club that would not serve anything to anyone until it was time for the reception. The bride had got us permission to be there and sit there, but no food or drink unless you were a club member. Gee, at that point, they could have made a killing off of us, charging a couple bucks for some soda. And especially since the club was way out in the sticks, it was a 20 minute drive just to get back into town. We had no idea where we were, and where the nearest decent bar was. We all hoped the bride got the place nice and cheap, because it was so far away from the church, and town. Do be ready with ideas on some clubs or movies or entertainment in the immediate area for people like Rivers who had no intention of driving home, and turning around in the driveway and coming right back.

Cocktail hour is basically a buffer time before dinner - people come into the venue, get a drink, wander around and visit, before the bridal party comes in just before the meal is served.
There's purple curacao for inclusion in a cocktail, maybe...

I had a cocktail hour at my reception. Basically, it is a time where guests can mingle and enjoy drinks and such. This ususally gives you and your new husband time to have some photos taken before making your entrance.

I love your colors! Not sure what kind of drink would work. Maybe you can do something a different color and just add some edible flowers?

Cocktail hour is just that, they serve cocktails. It also gives your guests something to do while waiting on you. Make up the name to a purple cosmo or martini. They can add coloring to it. If you new last name will be Johnson make a Johnny "tini" or if its Taylor, make it a cosmo"taylor". Good luck.

Schneider = Schneiderini
Osmer = Osmerpolitan
Brown = Ice Brown Mist

Martini

Stoli Blueberry - splash Grape Juice for the color you want - touch of Roses Lime Juice - hint of Sour Mix to put a little purple froth on top.

(Yes, I just made that up for you!)

What do people do at CH? They mix and mingle move about say hello and so on before they are assigned a table for dinner. It is usually so you can take pictures but many of my couples think CH is the best part so they take pictures first.

Well yes, it's mingling time so people just walk around or sit at a table and gab.

Can you get a hold of Grape Pucker schnapps? A little of that, a little vodka, a little Sprite/7-Up, and it will taste exactly like a grape soda. When I bartended, I called it a Purple Viking...feel free to change the name.
