Today came back from holidays to find a injured magpie outside my front garden (cats must have got it). It is quite small, probably a juvenile. Anyway, what do I do? I have it in a box with a hot water bottle and a towel. Does it need food or water? if so how do I feed it?
I probably can't contact anyone as it is the bank holiday. I'm living in Ireland.

The bird does not look injured from what I can see, it just can't fly. So that's what makes me think it's injured. I will try it with bread and water. I will try and get in contact with the RSPB or DSPCA. Thanks for your help guys. I hope I have done the right things.

Have been trying to feed it, but it's not taking the food. I can't get in contact with anyone, as it's the bank holiday. It seems to need hand feeding though it's not very young (has all it's feathers), I have no idea what to do. :(

Try feeding it bits of bread, or bread dipped in water. it definitely needs access to water. phone the RSPCA - they will either collect it or give you tips. in what ways is it injured? make sure any wounds are clean and don't become infected. if it is severely injured you should phone a vet, if you can get hold of one. good luck.

We had a Magpie which we called Skippy and he had a broken wing and all the fethers from his tail pulled out by a cat. We feed him with any leftovers from our meals and put a bowl of water ouf for him every day. He stayed in our garden and made it through the winter and now after about 18 months he can get up to the top of trees and fly a few hundred yards.
I would try and feed him and give him water and hope for the best.
Good Luck

You're doing the right things, it needs to be kept quiet, and it needs access to water.
Magpies are meat eaters so try offering it tinned dog food, or chopped hard boiled egg. It probably won't eat when you're around, so just put the food in and leave it. Dont try to force feed it as its a bit difficult with birds.
If it starts to 'gape', that is sits there with its mouth open panting, then its stressed and needs to be left alone in the dark to recover.
You can contact the RSPCA and local Wildlife Trust; or any local vet. Vets usually treat wild animals for free.

if its young and cant fly yet the chances are its parent wasn't far away, and if you put it safe in the garden they would have looked after it, if you cant contact the wild life trust or similar organisation, try feeding it mince meat with a tweezers ,and keep it in a quiet place till u hand it to some 1 in a a bird sanctuary in your area, rspca might have a contact number for you. good luck

Got juvenile magpie had 5 days was on a dual carriageway, I stopped in safe place and rescued it from sure death, had it to vets and had a X-ray done(free) to wildlife! It s absolutely fine apart from few broken tail feathers, vet advised me to keep in safe place few more days and try releasing it, I feed it mario worms sultanas and has access to water. Poop training pads very helpful so as to limit cleaning, talc and a bit of compassion goes a long way.

how is it injured?
keeping it in a box is a good idea along with a hot water bottle to keep it warm.
