In almost all big screen films and several programs/documentaries there is a "polished" look to the type of filming quality, where the lighting is more low and the movement of everything seems to be more slow and very 'under control', unlike filming in home movies, or with the use of a regular camcorder.
Is it the type of camera that achieves this 'polished' effect or is it the editing program used? My friend mentioned that it was the camera...with the use of a 3colour card. I'm not sure what this is and would like second or other opinions. Please be quite clarifying in ur response because I would really like to know about this in detail. Thank u in advance.

Part of the "film look" comes from filming at 24 frames per second. Home camcorders run at 25 or 29.7fps, depending on the TV format. Using cameras with 3 CCDs (which I assume is what 3 colour card means) gives more accurate colours than the single CCD used in most consumer level video cameras.

the polish comes from using a script. that way the camera person knows where to shoot next and can practice the more difficult moves. knowing where the shot needs to be allows anticipating lighting problems, perhaps from open windows for instance, and correcting them first.

It's probably both. That's why they use high quality/pro equipment for movies, in both the camera and the editing program field.
