Feel your pain. I do the same thing - try to answer honestly. The idea is to plant a small seed in the soil of a mind, and see if it will grow. I also stick around for the rare serious question.

Once in a while, people do ask respectful questions. Every now and then, someone really wants to understand something.
Most of it is bashing... I'm not offended. I'm happy with my beliefs, and rude people just tend to reinforce my opinion of them, either by display of ignorance or demonstration of heartlessness.
But I find it useful to know what others are thinking, since I don't generally discuss religion with anyone but close friends. I still want to know what opinions are out there, because I may run into them and will adjust my behavior accordingly. It also helps me think of responses in case my children get teased and come home with hard questions.

I don't think that it is supposed to be that way on the forums or even that some people intentionally try to come off as being disrespectful, but sometimes some people just get passionate about what they believe in, even if that passion is not shared by someone else. Yeah, it causes conflict, but it also shows the beauty of people (everyone is different), but at the same time, u might find people out there who think just like u.

You can find the answer to your frustration in the Bible. 1Timothy 3:1-5 describes the attitudes that would be displayed by the majority of people during the last days of this system.
Further 1John 5:19 says that the whole world is lying in power of the wicked one.So it is no surprise that many display both distrust and disdain for those sincerely seeking answers or for those willing to help such ones.
That however is what Jesus said his followers would face, when he commanded them to preach the good news in all the inhabited earth.Matthew 24:9-14 He still instructed them to do the work in spite of opposition, for the sake of those that are sincere and do listen.
So don't be discouraged, recognize that we are in the last days and this is fulfillment of bible prophecy.
It is refreshing to see someone sincere, and it does not pass unnoticed.

I think a legitimate and honest answer to your question is in order.
I think that there is too many people with flaring egos, hurt pride and mixed up ideas in their heads coming here on the internet to find a release for all that. The internet is anonymous, you can say and do whatever you want and no one is going to come to your house to throw a brick through your window or shoot you, or throw you in prison..... the worst that could happen is someone hurts their feelings yet again or says something to flare their egos yet again.... and it just gets worse.
From what I've experienced there will always be a small group of intelligent, respectful people trying to get through the barrage of ignorance.... and they will always be a minority I think because there is no motivation for these people to change, they will remain anonymous, and therefor feel no need to.

Because people of all beliefs have pride. It's the pride that gets in the way. It's pride that makes us feel like everyone needs to see things the way we see them, and it's pride that causes us to be insulted when someone thinks that our beliefs are "lower" than theirs. It's hard to swallow that pride and realize that you can love and respect someone as a fellow man even when you disagree with them. It's the reason no group of people, no matter how badly they "believe" or "want" to live and let live, cannot completely do so. Change comes one person at a time. So just once, swallow your pride and say, "You know, I completely disagree with you, but that's okay."

I am not sure how you think you can help people here, this forum is not populated by people with problems. It is populated by people with opinions. Naturally debate and argument will ensue, its what makes it interesting.
If you want to help people go to the tech forums, or pregnancy. You'd be amazed the amount of people who ask here in Yahoo, 'Am I pregnant?'.

I think that is you check my answers, you will find that I have only answered with respect. I care about the people that I respond to. I'm sorry that you have found many people 'not respectful.". Keep readng, and you will find people who are sincere and trying to be honestly, helpful to others. Be one of those people and you'll do just fine. Ignore those who seem to deserve no answer.

I'm starting to think that this forum could make a good "BINGO" game. We could make up cards with "Pascal's Wager", "Prove that God Does not Exist" and so on. Anyone got the programming skill and a website?

I only bash people who do not use their spell checker, or people who make a lot of typos.
Well, okay, sometimes I bash church people. But the worst thing I have ever called them is "goofy." I have never called them perverts or stuff like that.
