Amy I don't think that you will find any "simple" answer to your question. It's one that has been asked time and time again for thousands of years. All that I can say to your question is this.
Murder, war, theft, greed, racism, discrimination, revenge, lying, deceit, slander, adultery and other sexual immorality are examples of moral evils. Moral evil is caused by our sinfulness and rebellion against God. It is the result of ignoring the Ten Commandments and Jesus' command to "Love your neighbor as yourself". We have the choice to be good or evil, and many choose to follow the ways of evil. God has chosen not to intervene in our personal choices, thus giving us what we often refer to as "free will", allowing us to come to Him of our own choice. Unfortunately, when some people choose the path of evil, others suffer as a result. However, I as a Catholic believe, that in eternity, the just will be rewarded and the evildoers will be punished; small comfort I know to those who are subjected to such evil but it is a comfort to me and to many none the less. At all costs we should avoid participating in moral evil. Until we all come to believe in the commandment that Christ gave us, Evil will as Evil does.

In the beginning, God had to make a monumental decision. He had to decide whether He would allow us to have the freedom of choice or not. "My way or the highway," or freedom to choose for ourselves what to do. He chose the latter. Now, many things we try to leave up to God, we should be handling ourselves. Left with the freedom to choose, we have made some classy choices: child abduction, abuse and molestation; rape; lying: genocide; theft; torture; sexual immorality; and the list could go on for a while. God hasn't done these things to us. We are doing these things to each other. We should be ensuring that these things are happening with less and less frequency, instead of hoping God would override people's free choice. What would life be like if God altered our behavior every time He thought we were doing something wrong? Would you actually like that? He can't play favorites and decide one wrong has to be corrected and another is okay. That wouldn't be fair, either. So, tell me, what is fair? How about God taking away our freedom to choose? That way we would only do things He likes. We wouldn't be able to do anything else. Where is your outrage at the person who actually abducted the little girl? There was no mention of the man or woman who committed this atrocity. I find that extremely interesting. And disturbing. Because of your very reasoning, those types of people will continue to prosper in what they are doing. Because nobody will hold them truly responsible. They'll blame God more.

A woman raises a boy and she tries to teach him the best she can and then he goes off the rails and hurts someone. Who's fault is it the mother's God's or the man's.

If God came and stopped all the evil in the world which He will do soon. Be ready because it is going to hurt you, even you who have only said wrong things against people or have pinched a pen or whatever from school or work you know who you are, it is all of us. We are here living amongst fallen people, as we ourselves are, and we like to point the finger but never at ourselves for allowing the world to become the state it is in. Are you a part of the problem or part of the solution. Blame ourselves. Look at the bullying in schools. Blame ourselves, look at the hundreds dying each day because of drug abuse, blame ourselves, look at the starving in the world when there is more than enough food to go around BLAME OURSELVES. Pray for the situation do something instead of moping and complaining and sitting on the fence. Pathetic

I have no religion or practises but have had experiences to confirm the existence of God. My answer to your question is that if God prevented all evil things to happen then this would take away our choice of free will and make us nothing more than puppets or toys. You may have noticed in your life that as humans we improve our selves when we are challenged. Those that are handed everything for free very often don't appreciate what they have and tend to be not so nice. This can be seen in children who have to do chores for pocket money compared to children that get everything for free. So, these terrible things that happen motivate us to strive to be better parents, better people, create a safer and better world. Not always, but very often some good does come from evil, such as some of the things in Nazi Germany resulted in scientific and medical developments in America.

Its never easy to watch the news, is it?
Look around - take a good, hard look:
this is what you get when man is giving
sovereignty over the earth and his society.
This life we live in the flesh is very temporary; it is a small parenthesis in the book of our lives: birth opens the parenthesis, and death closes the parenthesis.
According to the original manuscripts, from which I study, we are here in the flesh to make an ultimate decision of who we will follow, Christ or Satan.
When Satan was defeated in the war he began (rebellion over the throne of the Christ - that position) God decreed that he would destroy that age that was, and bring in this flesh age, because a third of our people followed satan in that war, and many, many others stayed neutral - they didn't care as long as it didn't affect them (whats new under the sun, huh?)
God could have just killed those who followed satan - but what does it take to kill one of your own? That you love? So, the decision was that each soul (all of us) would come thru this flesh age one time, in order to make that decision. But in order to have this fair, two things would have to be true:
First, man would have complete and absolute free will in all decisions, without Gods interference in ANYTHING.
(for the scholar, yes i know the elect are the exeption to this)
And second, man would require a comparitor; there is not much use in being
allowed to choose between good and good; well, your comparitor is satan and his evil spirit on the earth. This is why even though Satan was judged and condemned to death after his defeat in the war, he is still around - God is using him, and then he will perish.
Do you understand? God is not at all happy when he sees the horrors going on,
but this is much bigger than any one of us.
It was known by each of us that this flesh life would be mostly without the interference of God, and we all agreed to the plan.

I understand how you feel; I have a small child, and when I read your post, goose bumps were all over me. How horrid can things possibly get? Well, know this:
Christ is coming back soon, and this time its not as a lamb to the slaughter; He is coming this time as King and High Priest,
and he is coming with a rod of iron. Thats for correction, and I assure you that things
will get straightened out.
Many people don't realize that there is an acrostic within Psalms 37, and the message is this: If it looks to you as if wicked people flourish and seem to get away with all kinds of atrocities, think again:
God is watching every move. Those who commit these things will be like an animal on the spit, where their grease drips down into the fire and then the smoke of it rises forever and ever. Nobody is getting away with anything.
In several places in Scripture, God describes the hurt in his heart when he has to watch his children suffer so; vengence is coming, and who will be able to stand through it?
The answer: you can. If the churches would only teach who we are and why we are here, so many of these questions would be so easily answered; and no, this is in no way
an answer to how someone could afflict hurt on a 3 yr. old - but it would answer why
God does not intervene in these situations.
Its because he promised you and me that he wouldn't - regardless of the circumstances; and He has tears in His eyes, I'm sure, when he keeps that promise day after day after day.......
We should all pray for divine intervention for this child; perhaps with specific request,
God will interfere; I'm sorry I can't say for sure, but I'm damn sure gonna try.

The answer to your question is very simple. Its to do with sin. Most people think sin is just lying, stealing, committing adultery, murder and so on, but the Bible never says that at all. Sin is selfishness, greed and wanting power and wealth for yourself and not caring how you get it. If I steal some money, I don't care that somebody might be hurting and may have to go without. If I sleep with another mans wife, I don't care that a family could be destroyed. Who would be to blame in those situations? I would, why would it be God's fault? I would have stolen money and another mans wife, not God. So whoever took that little girl why has it got to be God's fault? Sin is selfish and so the sinner is selfish. He or she who did this dreadful thing where acting on their own impulse. They chose to do this terrible act.
But do you really want to know why God never stepped in? Or is this a question you asked just because you can't think of a decent question? If its real then email me and I can answer your question, but I warn you, you won't like the answer.

I believe in a rather larege pantheon leaning more toward the Egyptians.
As far as the Gods "letting" anything happen, its not that simple. We were given free will. WE have the power to change the pace of the world. We can feed the homeless, cloth the poor, save children with foster homes or orphanges. We can donate money to charities. Do we? Obviously not enough. So whose fault is that?
This place is ours. We are give STRENGTH from the Gods, but our actions are our own.
And for all of you who are blaming the parents, who the hell are you to say such things?? They could have been sleeping in thier beds while thier child slep in the thiers will al the doors and windows locked like any good parents and some FREAK came by and broke in?? How does that make them bad parents? It amazes me the lack of compassion in human being. It also make me ill, which just proves my point that HUMANS make the world the place it is today.

I know it is upsetting to hear about innocent children going through horrific situations. I am a Baptist and to be honest, I truly have not got an answer to give that even sounds ethical. All I can tell you is that God does everything for a reason. I know it's really hard to see the reasoning behind all that he does, but I truly believe that he is doing it to better someones life. I know it sounds awful to think that a child may suffer, so someone else could learn something beneficial, but it's true.
I honestly believe that when something happens like this to a child, God is with them. He comforts them, he takes away there pain and fear. God is a loving God, he cares for his children. He would never hurt an innocent child. I know to an unbeliever it may sound cold and malice, but God is good. You just have to believe, God Bless.

I am a Christian...God gives every person "free will", which means you can do what ever you want with your life...some people follow the straight and narrow...others, well they go the other way...Its not Gods fault this stuff has happened....its the persons fault that did it...as a Christian I believe Jesus will return, and that finally will be the end to all the wickedness & suffering in the world...I truly feel for these children, but for right now, all we can do is pray they will be safe...Don't give up hope, God is there and does hear your prayers...God Bless You....

The world is full of evil people who make evil choices that affect other people. Choices. . .

Should we not put blame on the person who has done the things instead of using God as a scapegoat?

Why did this person abduct this girl? Why are there people who can be cruel to children? Because there is good and bad in this world and too often evilness is chosen. People are lost, have no hope and no faith. . .they will be judged.

Wow, and for those of you blaming the parents. . .wow. I do my best with my children and pray that nothing ever happens to them, but there is always that possibility that it could be you.
