I'm curious as to weather or not current gun / firearm laws allow UK citizens to carry concealed firearms for any reason. I am aware you can get a permit to have one in your residence. But, like in California for example, can you get a permit to carry one on your person when you are out and about?

Thanks

Guns, with the exception of air rifles and to a lesser extent shotguns are VERY illegal in the UK. The government even had to make special legislation so that the shooting competitions at the olympics could take place.

In order to buy a gun you must have "good reason" - you can't just buy one. You must have legitimate sporting or work-related interests in owning a gun. Self defence is _NOT_ a valid reason. Handguns are almost entirely illegal - so that would rule out concealed weapons. Even the British pistol shooting team for the olympics CANNOT train in Britain because of these very strict laws.

Being caught with an unliscenced gun carries a penalty of 5 years in prison (and as nobody who has been in prison more then 3 years can own a gun also means you can no longer own one) and an unlimited fine.

Section One Firearms, pistols and automatic weapons are not allowed to be possessed at all, period. Not even in a gun club. The only weapon that may be carried is a shotgun on private land for shooting vermin and clay pigeon shooting. There is no way weapons can be carried by members of the public concealed or otherwise legaslly. Dee Cee

So go live in the USA then. Most of us want stronger Gun laws thank you. You don't need any gun to protect you from white working class people. I agree the defending yourself part is stupid. They need to get some common sense on that one, but guns are not the answer.

It is quite rightly illegal in the UK to possess firearms. Yes you can own an air weapon (restricted in poundage) and you can own a shotgun (having being vetted)(but you can't carry them around on the street). Handguns are most definitely banned. I disagree that violent crime rates in the UK are above those in the USA. Neither does UK law allow criminals to carry firearms as some halfwit suggested. What we do need are tougher tentences and tougher prisons. The human rights of offenders in these cases should be waived.

chnically yes, if you are granted a section 7 firearms certificate but this only really applies to people whose work puts their lives in severe danger of a terrorist attack or assassination attempt. To my knowledge only people like police special branch officers and royalty and diplomatic protection group officers carry concealed firearms, in Northern Ireland (where I live) private citizens can be granted personal protection weapon licences if they are deemed to be at risk of terrorist attack, many building contractors who have worked on police stations, prisons etc were targeted by the IRA in the past and were issued licences and firearms. Also over here, off duty policemen and soldiers carry pistols for personal protection as the IRA have in the past assassinated many of both!

Handguns are totally illeagal even at a shooting club. No private citizen in the UK can carry a gun, concealed or not. A good idea as it means we don't all go around shooting each other. The majority of Police do not carry firearms either.

Most handguns, with certain exceptions for competion purposes and antiques, are prohibited from personal possesion. You cannot own one let alone carry it concealed. You can get a licence for rifles and shotguns with lots of restrictrions but its hard to conceal one of those. Shortening the barrel of a shotgun (to conceal it or for any other reason) is illegal

British Law allows a criminal to carry a gun, but not an innocent person.

There is no extra tariff on sentencing especially over the past few years for using a gun during a crime.
