Thoughts like that honestly freak me out. But I believe that there is something bigger than us and it's God. I guess I rely on that to avoid the thought that maybe there isn't anything more. But I have faith that there is a God and he's got a plan.

Yup, we're all going to die, and disappear forever.
Kinda makes life worth living, doesn't it?
=================================
Dill (below) writes
"The atheist (and other unregenerates) will actually embrace such a philosophy, because then they are accountable to NO ONE. That's the main selling point, no more. They can claim that they are autonomous(a law unto themselves) and feel quite comfortable there. "
Notice that we atheists never say anything remotely like this. Dill is simply lying, and in fact repeating a lie that believers tell over and over again here. Ironic, isn't it? In accusing atheists of wanting to avoid accountability for sins, the believers so routinely "bear false witness against their neighbors"?

If there is no God, it wouldn't matter. I wouldn't be awaiting death... I would be living life, trying to make things better for those around me and those that will come after me. I can think of something worse.... eternity of torment. I would rather it all end and that be it... utter destruction, no memory of me at all, than for someone to tell me they love me while I'm being tortured forever.
Tell me, what do you think those consequences are? Do you honestly think the world would be any different?

Spinning wildly through the universe with a giant hot ball of gas for a partner. At any moment the sun could explode a comet could come hurdling in to smash us. Countless meteorites cross our path everyday each one deadly in its own right. Plagues, wars, sexually transmitted deceases, corruptness in gov. and last but not least Lucifer standing on your shoulder whispering in your ear..."Just do it!" AAAAAAAAAARRRRGGG!!!! Thanks to God we are still here. Thanks to God the sun comes up and the birds sing, the wind blows, the seasons change. Remember there is always hope. Without hope there can be no joy and without joy there can be no love. Love each moment of your life as if it were your last. It just might be. God is watching so i say i love you, i need you. You are my hope, my joy, my love. Praise be to God only he could keep us alive in such a hellish environment. Peace to you.

I like the way Penn Gillette worded it in his "This I believe" essay for NPR titled "There is no God". "I believe there is no God. Having taken that step, it informs every moment of my life. I'm not greedy. I have love, blue skies, rainbows and Hallmark cards, and that has to be enough. It has to be enough, but it's everything in the world and everything in the world is plenty for me. It seems just rude to beg the invisible for more. Just the love of my family that raised me and the family I'm raising now is enough that I don't need heaven. I won the huge genetic lottery and I get joy every day."
There is no better way to word it. People who look at this life and see nothing but a crap fest really aren't paying attention. It really is self centered to cry to the unknown for more when this world has so much to offer. Yes, we are standing on a spinning rock in the vast nothingness waiting to die. But we are also on a very beautiful rock that can offer a full life if you are willing to grab it. The dance of joy and pain, beauty and ugliness, laughter and sorrow that is this life is so beautiful when one steps back to look at it that to ask for more is to be truly ungrateful. It would be like being given a masterpiece to hang on your wall and turning it down because you want the whole museum.

uhm...actually...some of us aren't exactly "awaiting death".
Some of us are living life, for as long as it lasts.
And one doesn't need to believe in God to believe in infinite existence. There is a lot about the universe that is still unknown. There may well be natural laws that give rise to self-awareness and/or preserve it beyond the death of the body.
Funny -and- well-thought out ;-)

large one my pal !!! “I recommend, God forbid the individuals surely post a combat if the indians claimed back their land...” and you apart from mght pronounced: Or is it that as quickly as Westerners and Christians do it it somewhat is defence, yet while center easterners/ Muslims do it it somewhat is terrorism? very sturdy??? So why, while Israel shield herself you're saying : “Israel is doing to the Palestinians only like Hitler grew to become into doing to the Jews and all and sundry else interior the Holocaust.” And now for the info: For some Palestinian that living at Israel and east Jerusalem they have extremely sturdy lifestyles, and plenty better circumstances then many Arabs in different Arabs international places. Israel withdraw from the Gaza strip, the Palestinian choosd to launch rockets in direction of Israel, and Israel only attempt to do, like what the yank, British, Russian and the different u . s . a . will do to guard their voters. Please come to Israel and notice for your self.

The conclusion is correct. But so what? Are you so jaded by this life that you feel obliged to rely on a subsequent one for some sort of fulfillment? The biological purpose of life is to make more life. Beyond that, it's up to you; Carl Sagan said: "If you want your life to have significance, do something significant." Enjoy what you've got; it's all there is.

Why is the thought of being alone scary? Why is the thought of defining your own meaning for life a bad thought?
Yes, we are on this planet, and we will die. The question now becomes, to what will you dedicate your life to give it purpose and meaning? Loving spouse, raising responsible children? Researching killer diseases?
To me, it is a wonderful thing to understand that we are limited in our time here. This gives me impetus to live each and every day to its fullest.
