When I was little I had a ton of ear infections. I would have use some RX drops. But I would lay on a heating pad until the the abscess would burst. This would relieve the pressure and make the pain go away. It was the best feeling and I would be 100% better. Some say if you use oil drops along with the heating pad it works well.
I will tell you this.....if your child keeps getting ear infections please see a ear specialist. My mother had the chance to put tubes in my ears and did not so I kept getting the infections until I was about 10 and now I have hearing loss in one of my ears. Not that it impairs me but I would not have had gone though the pain the years before.
Good Luck

I know this isn't what you want to hear, but with a 3 year old, I would stay away from any home remedies that aren't advised by a Dr. See a Dr and give her whatever the doctor recommends....most likely an antibiotic and some tylenol for pain. Tylenol is safe if you give it in the proper dosage and don't give it for long periods of time. Ear infections in young children need to be treated quickly to avoid hearing loss, damage to the ears.

A warm rag works wonders. You might also try a hairdryer set on warm, not hot. Heat is the key. Good luck. Ear infections are so painful as an adult, imagine how painful and scary they must be for a child. Be sure and finish any and all prescription meds your doc has prescribed. Antibiotics are usually called for in this situation. A good decongestant can alleviate some of the pressure, also. My mom always told me to also keep the child off of milk. Only clear liquids. Sorry your little one is sick and hope the home remedies help!

Prop her upright with pillows on the couch. Laying down puts more pressure on the ear. We have an infant hot water bottle that I have had since my oldest (nearly 28 years old) was an infant. When my kids had ear infections (some had a lot) we always filled up the hot water bottle, wrapped it in a towel, and they held it against the ear that hurt. If you don't have a hot water bottle, you can use a heating pad set on low with a bath towel over it to lay on. Also, just putting a washcloth or a hand towel in the microwave to heat up and holding against the painful ear can help some, but not as long as the heating pad or hot water bottle. Just as an added extra note: Many doctors are now steering clear of antibiotics for some ear infections or taking a "wait and see" approach. A large number of ear infections are viral in nature and with or without antibiotics clear up just as quickly. Giving frequent antibiotics is making some bacteria strains resistant to common antibiotics. With my youngest daughter, her last 2 ear infections were treated with "wait and see" and they cleared up without needing to fill the prescription.
