As "snark" said, buy a hub. I have a 4-port hub which I use for flashdrive backups and it works fine (knock wood).
Are you sure your USB port went "belly up"?
I have found, through experience, that although - theoretically - we should be able to plug and unplug devices into a USB port, it doesn't work that way in the real world - at least not on my PC. If I remove a device and plug in another, it doesn't work -- unless I reinsert the device and go through the "safely remove" procedure. In this case, I can then plug in another device. You might want to try this before giving up on it.

"Belly up", I assume means it is no longer works. If this is the case I would suggest you get it fixed, as it would be cheaper than purchasing a hub and also cheaper than a new system: when hardware is failing it is time to act as you could short circuits on the mother board. It may be just the plug, which do tend to fall apart and pull each other away...I hope it didn't break up and fall inside!

You can get a USB hub, like a router, and use that, although speed will probably be split. If you have a router, see if that has a usb port you can use.

you may desire to purchase a USB-2 adapter board that plugs into the PCI slot of your pc. you will might desire to open your pc, get rid of the bracket from the slot conceal, plug this board in, then deploy the motive force utility. you're able to have additonal USB ports besides as what's already on your pc.
