My dog would bark at first, then run over to the burglar and lick them then take them a toy and want to play, he's a golden retriever and so dopey, at least the bark would wake me up so i could get out of bed and deal with the burglar myself!

No one could break into my house at night. I leave the doors unlocked & windows open BUT I have trained dogs outside.
Every house on my street has been broken into at one time or another but I have not had a break in or theft from my home. I owe this to my dogs.
I have lived in this house for over 35 years & I can say this with pride cause of my dogs. Not even the neighbors will enter my yard unless I am right there to let them in. I have some of the best protection there is. Dogs.
Of corse dogs can be shot & an intruder enter but if that happened there are more dogs to deal with & the intruder would probably loose use of his weapon hand as one of the other dogs would disarm him.
I got some good dogs.
Blessings

My dogs start barking as soon as anyone gets near the house. The burglar would hear the little bark of the Rat Terrier, the howl of the Beagle and the deep bark of the Pitt Bull. It would take guts to go ahead and enter the house. If he did he would have three dogs all over him to be petted. Due to all the noise his biggest problem would be looking down the barrel of my model 1911A 45 caliber.

Hi
I had a boxer dog (Vicky) she let the burglar in, but she didn't let him get out of the house, she stayed at the door growling and barking ,which woke us up, we phoned the police and the burglar was taken away with all our things, he went to court and got 6 months in prison,we got all our things back, purse, cheque book, jewellery, some money,2 credit ,we were lucky to have Vicky,
My boxer was 13 years old, I never knew she was like this so protective of her home, I gave her lots of chicken, her favourite food , as a thank you to her for being such a wonderful clever lady

I always wondered that but I know the answer after testing the issue. I have a 110 lbs Lab and a 92 Lbs Pit Bull. Both usually just bark but once you are in the door you will get licked to death. But one night I dressed in dark clothing belonging to my boyfriend and wore a hoody. Any ways I snuck in the house and almost lost my leg. The Pits head actually went thru the bedroom door when I slammed it.

Lol probably circle the burglar in an excitable way and run up and down the hallway at high speed. He would certainly not act as a guarddog!

First our chihuahuas would let us know long before the burglar got in the house. They would be barking up a storm amd we would grab a gun and meet them with it when they came inside. Our chihuahuas themselves could not do much damage, but by them alerting us, we could get the situation under control quickly.

LOL well my Chihuahua would probably run over there barking and snarling and might try to bite his ankle. I think the burglar would be more scared of what my big male cat would do he hates strangers as it is without one barging in.

well if we are in the house and he hears something outside he barks like a mad man but when we go out and come back in later he skulks round the corner timidly until he sees us. He is a bit of a character really. I imagine he would hide if someone tried to get in but I hope I am wrong.
