Remember that you have only a few days to prevent a pregnancy after unprotected sex. If it is taken within 3 days (72 hours) after unprotected sex, it will decrease the chance that you will get pregnant by up to 89%. That means 7 out of every 8 women who would have gotten pregnant will not get pregnant. And Plan B® works even better if you take it within the first 24 hours after unprotected sex.1 Unprotected sex might happen when your healthcare professional’s office may be closed, such as over a weekend. Getting a prescription for Plan B® in advance means that it will be there for you — in time — if you ever need it.

No, it won't. Use a condom. Some of the gals use Depo and others use a patch because the pills provide iffy coverage for some. Part of this has to do with changing weight and thus hormone levels rather than the result of the gastric bypass.

Difficult question. In general the day after pill is effective if taken within 72 hs, but given the bypass it could be her stomach does not absorb it.
Since you anyway need a Dr to prescribe it, explain also this problem.
Also, she might want to switch to another contraception like depo-provera or novaring: in these cases hormones are absorbed through the skin.
Good luck

Well, that's better left to a doctor. Birth control pills need time to be absorbed into your body to take affect. Plan B is basically a mega dose. If you're worried about pregnancy, it would be better than nothing if you took those pills.
While you're checking with your doctor, ask him/her about the birth control shot. This doesn't go through the stomach and is very effective at preventing pregnancy.
Best of luck!

Plan B DEFINITELY does not work for everyone. It only works if the egg has not yet been fertilized. That takes anywhere from a minute to 72 hours.
It is going to be even more difficult for the pill to work due to your wife's surgery. On the other hand, it may also be more difficult to conceive, so you may be in the clear.

I can't really answer in regards to the other medications, but I took a series of "Day after/morning after" pills and they worked for me. Believe me, it would have been a sure thing otherwise. I do want to warn that she should take anti nausea medication. I was not on other medication and still felt quite ill, so the anti nausea medication helped to keep the pills in my system. I would highly recommend that. Thank you.

The morning after pill isn't 100 percent efective anyway (Nothing is!) I would think about using a different form of contraception, and speak to a family planning nurse or your wife's surgeon for further advice regarding the morning after pill.

She'd be better of crushing the pill into powder and sprinkling it on some apple sauce or something similar. That way it will all be absorbed.
Edited to add: condoms aren't 100% fool-proof people. Accidents happen.
