Aren't you afraid that the thirld world countries always choose the most american style polluting vehicules ?

Well, lets examine your question first...you mention "third world" countries. This very title implies a certain level of poverty, unsophistication, and technological ignorance. But they are still people and still want to do what they consider as improving their lot in life.

For most of these countries, its monkey see monkey do...(no disparagement implied). The trouble is, that they look at images of our society from 30-50 years ago and not at what we do today. Moreover, these societies don't have the level of sophisticated infrastructure that we in America enjoy and their roads are, at best, graveled paths.

Also, as with any society, greed powers the economy. These countries do not have the level of law enforcement capabilities that America has, and so does not pass laws to protect the environment like we do. These people are barely getting by for the most point, if their government passed laws to protect the environment instead of putting food in their bellies, they would revolt and kill everyone in the government..... and most likely eat them!!

So it is no wonder that they don't know for the most part that what they are doing hurts the environment. They don't have the luxury of thinking globally when they don't even know where their next meal is coming from or when. If getting in a smoking, clattery old heap and going down a pothole filled road will help them earn money or take them to their next trade to get food...its good enough for them. Its all they care about...survival.

Most of them can't afford cars so that is not yet a major problem. They have very old fashioned manufacturing plants and power generating equipment, until that changes, the cars they drive are the least of the rest of the worlds problems. And yes FYI US, Japanese and most European cars are the LEAST polluting vehicles.

American vehicles are among the least polluting. Chinese have horribly polluting vehicles.
