Mari, if marriage is considered sooo sacred by heteros, then why is the divorce rate so high? That's a crock and you know it!!

As far as I know, MA is the only state. I do believe, however, there are a few states where you can have a civil union.

There was recently a huge article in the local paper here in CT. While I don't see a bill allowing gay marriage passing if it was put to vote right this second, more and more voters are swaying in favor of it, and it should happen in about five years, and ten at the absolute most.

The second site below lists the status on same sex marriage/civil union state by state, last updated 6/06

Massachusetts

Marriage, Civil Union, and Domestic Partnership are three different things which offer different degrees of benefits. Marriage being the most and DP being the least. While Vermont, New Jersey, Hawaii and other states do offer Civil Unions Massachusettes is the only one to offer full Marriage status.

I know they can in Vermont. That's where my gay friends talk about getting married.

New Jersey and Massachusetts both did; I'm fairly certain they still do, but you will need to double check on that.

The hard part will be finding a church that is willing to do it, if you want a church wedding. You may have to go with a justice of the peace.

Also, you can legally get married in Canada, The Netherlands, Belgium, and Spain, if you're willing to go international. The catch is that one of you needs dual citizenship if the US is to really recognize the marriage.

Mazel tov!

Civil unions are recognized in the US in:

California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Maine, New Jersey, Vermont, and Washington, and the U.S. District of Columbia (Washington, D.C.)

Massachusetts I think as well.

Please check each location for further details and requirements.

I am assuming you are from the US. You can not get married in the US, you can however have a cival union in certain states. New york, New Jersey, for starter. The best place to find out would be to contact your local OUT office. Most cival union are done at city hall.

I am truly hoping that no where in the world. That kind of love is a sacred thing between a MAN and a WOMAN. Gay couples dont bother because as long as you have love in your life, that's what's important. But marriage is truly a sacred thing and shouldnt be taken lightly or as a joke.
