How can Christians defend their beliefs vs Mormons with any validity by saying that the Book of Mormon is an addition therefore not valid.

Most of your Bible is an Addition.... How can you possibly use this argument as a valid base of that you are correct and they are wrong.

Well, polygamy is promoted in the old testament as well (just FYI). Still, the book of Mormon is kind of a joke. It's ridiculous and is so far off base as far as being even remotely accurate to history. I'm not a Christian, but at least the people who wrote that book kind of knew what they were talking about.

I like it how you say "your bible" sort of reinforces what i Have been saying for weeks , that mormons arent christian. Most of the Bible is not an addition it is one whole book. God did not promote incest in anyway. The difference is the old and new testament ., the new testament being the most recent set of laws to live by once Jesus had been sacrificed for our sins. Maybe you should get a bit of a better understanding of the bible before you next time ask such a stupid question. You will risk sounding like an idiot again.

As a Christian it is important that you first establish some common grounds with a Mormon. For the Mormon it is the KJV of the Bible. Begin a discussion and tell them that you are honestly searching for truth ask them if they would be willing to answer some questions but say that for the sake of argument you only want to look in the KJV Bible for the answers, since you both believe it to be the inspired Word of God.
The problem with telling a Mormon that adding to God's Word is a sin and that this is exactly what they have done is that they will be quick to tell you that the book of Deuteronomy and Revelation are the only books that hold to that claim, they follow that statement by assuring you that they have clearly not added to these books at all.
So use clever questioning using the Bible to contradict there other teaching. First point out that Jesus is the Son of God, not the first born of creation, not a created spirit being, but God Himself in human form. The Mormon holds fast to there teaching that Jesus and Lucifer are spirit brothers and therefore both created beings. Second address the issue of eternal families. A Mormon will be quick to tell you that you and your family can be together as a family eternally in Heaven. To this simply bring up the problem in Matthew 22:23-30. The typical response to these contradictions is to quote something out of Book of Mormon, Pearl of great price, or the Doctrine and Covenants, hold your ground and say that you can only except the Bible and are reluctant to hear anything else.
This approach typically won't make you many friends but it will stop the conversation and hopefully cause our Mormon friends to search a bit deeper into there faith. Remember as a Christian it is not our job to convert people, that job is reserved for the Holy Spirit alone, all we are called to do is to witness and share our faith. Best of luck.
Blessings!

Adding more scripture isn't the problem. The warning of adding or taking away from the Bible was first seen in Deuteronomy. Adding to what is already written is forbidden. So don't be adding to the Gospel of John or the Psalms. To add more revelation is not an issue. That added revelation must be in full agreement with what is already there. God isn't going to do an about face on important or for that matter any tenets of His revelation to man. In this avenue I do think the Book of Mormon has a few problems. Punishing the inhabitants of the new world at the death of Christ jumps to mind when I say that. To me this book will never achieve the status of Scripture but condemn it for being added, no I don't think that claim holds up. Jim

With ease can the historical Christian church defend their beliefs vs Mormons.
Look in the book of Hebrews and you will see that there is proof in there that the Mormon church is not a true restoration of Christianity.

Mormons settle for Jesus Christ as their Lord, and Savior. it is what it meant to be a christian for hundreds of years. The Christian Apologists began to criticize Mormons by fact they did no longer trust various the concepts the Mormons had. Then they added to the definition of what makes a Christian by fact they weren't prevailing their battles.

All you need to tell them is what Jesus says about other doctrines in Revelation to the 7 Churches.

You can tell them that God loves you already and has washed away your sins & you are a new creation in Christ Jesus. That you don't have to be baptized into the Mormon Church to learn how to attain righteousness. Tell them that Jesus Blood has made you the righteousness of Christ. And nothing you can do or not do will change that.

Of course they have their journal of discourses that say Christians are foolish to think that Jesus shed blood alone will save them. By Brigham Young. So be aware of that.

Also, tell them that Jesus would be mad at you if you left Jesus Gospel to go to theirs and you might die early /go to heaven early.

Your Great Grandmother just said what Is written in the Holy Bible. It is a great Truth. Not a Mormon Truth though.

Does it strike anyone else as strange that us religious folks are trying to use logic or different interpretations of scriptures to defend matters of faith?

I'm saying this realizing I've got a big 'ol beam in my own eye, because I do it all the time. But it just hit me -- certainly our reasons for our beliefs are much more spiritual and faith-based than that.

The Mormons claim to have received the Book of Mormon from an angel. This angel provided teachings that both add to -- and detract from -- the central message of the Gospel.

The Christian Bible reads: Galatians 1:8 But even if we, OR AN ANGEL FROM HEAVEN, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. 9 As we have said before, so now I say again, if ANYONE preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed.

You've claimed there are additions to the Christian Bible, but haven't provided proof. I'm not aware of any additions. Please post these as separate questions and, if I'm still around, I'd be happy to respond.

You can not. Mormons like Jehovah's Witnesses have been brain washed. Getting through to them is near impossible. Many of them have now been anti-"counter cult" trained and have been schooled in the art of defending their beliefs. There are some "inter-faith" ministries that have developed strategies to defeat their defenses, but it takes time. Only if you feel "called" to this kind of work should you attempt it. This is the hardest type of mission work on earth. Trying to witness to someone who is already convinced that they are a Christian is a "rough row to hoe" so to speak. Good luck- look up "inter-faith witness". This will get you started.
