i was never told to use protection for a month or that the medicine has to take a month to get into ur system and i have been on almost every single product there is.......on the directions for each type it states to use a backup method (a condem) for the first week........that is all.......i have been on birthcontrol for over 5 yrs and no mistakes or problems and only used backup method during that first week. READ THE DIRECTIONS AND HAVE THE HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONAL EXPLAIN PROPER USAGE TO YOU!

Yes, it is, but this is important. Even though you are on birth control, you must still make the guy use a condom every time, always. Don't count on just your birth control, use a condom for backup. Birth control has been known to fail, so you really need the extra protection. You being on the pill is no excuse to stop using condoms. Remember that you have the power to make any guy wear a condom, because you can simply say no if they don't want to. If you refuse to have sex without it, they will wear it. Really, if I were you, I would be worried if the guy didn't want to use a condom.

It can depend when you started taking it during your cycle, and what kind of method you are using. For example, I am on the patch. If I started it the day my period ended, then I was fine. If I started wearing it at any other time, I had to use condoms for a week. Many prescriptions are different.

If your doctor didn't explain yours to you, shame on them! But, all of the information you are looking for should be in the packaging that came with your prescription. There's a lot of small print, but it should be there. If you tossed that already, find the manufacturer's website. All the dosing information will be there too.

Yes, this is the same story that I have heard over and over from my Doctors. Use alternative protection during the first month.
