I think the best way to lose weight is to make lifestyle changes. I have been overweight since I was a small child and have struggled with it my entire life. I have tried every diet in the book and I will lose weight but always manage to gain it back. Try a diet low in saturated fat but high in fiber and lean protein. Check the labels on the food you eat. Try to keep your calories under 2000 everyday and make sure to get some form of exercise. I like just being active, playing sports with my children etc. Do something that you find fun that you can stick to your entire life.

find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have lean meat (protein) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min, light weight training
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, past etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)

- eat 3 distinct meals a day, at least 4 hours apart
- make sure there is protein in your snacks to keep you full
- exercise... but you might want to wait until you control your eating
-measure out everything you eat! this really helps, only eat small servings
-buy foods in snack size or put them in baggies yourself so you don't eat out of a big bag and overeat
-eat lots of veggies/fruits
-take a multi-vitamin!!
-drink lots of water
