I am a strong believer in Christ, I strive to maintain a healthy and strong bond spiritually.... I'm a good hearted person and consider myself to be humbled towards others. My question is the following... I want to get a tattoo that symbolizes how much the Lord means to me, I also enjoy to sing so I would like to incorporate music notes in the art... I have read some passages from the bible about tattoos but it does not specify, in general it states that no one should puncture there body or mark it for any religion or saint, or of the dead, but what if I want to do it because I have a passion for art and God?

There is a passage in Leviticus that forbids tattooing... but if you follow that, then you must also follow the passages about women being unclean during their menstrual cycles, selling off daughters, treatment of slaves, etc. etc. Otherwise you are just picking and choosing.

Another option is to read the list of Levitical laws in the context in which they were written. The Hewbrew people of the time had a very different body/soul/identity viewpoint than many modern people. To them, you ARE your body. Period, end of report. You don't do things disrespectful to your body, you do not eat "trash" etc because you are doing that to your very self. Also, remember the environment and climate these people lived in. They did not have the same sanitary opportunities and conditions that we have. Many of the laws on cleanliness were needed to maintain health.

So all that being said... I personally don't see how getting a tattoo is any different than getting your ears pierced. If you want a tattoo, make sure it is something that has a timeless meaning for you so that you don't look at it in ten years and think "geez, what a kiddy tattoo!"

I feel that if you get a tattoo - it should be something that has a great personal value to you as opposed to being just art - the body is a temporary home for our spirit that should shine more than anything else - I don't think there's anything wrong with tattoos personally - they can also strike up conversations about them - in which case, you seem to know the answer to that question. "Why did you get that tattoo?"

Wow! Thank you for asking that question. I have been grappling with this very issue for years now. I am Catholilc and my mother has always told me that tattoos deface what God has given us. But on the other hand, I want to get a tattoo that shows how important He is in my life.
I think that since our bodies are just temporary vehicles for our short time on Earth, you will be okay. God will judge us on our deeds (how we treated others) and what is in our hearts.
Good luck!
:-)

That's the same trap King Saul fell into.
He tried to justify NOT obeying God.
God had told him to completely destroy the Amalekites- everything.
Instead, he allowed the people to keep plunder, to sacrifice to God.
1 Samuel chapter 15, the whole chapter, and especially vss.15.
It is beautifully summed up in the much known and loved memory verse
1 Samuel 15:22, 23.
You will know what to do.

I don't see anything wrong with it. I have one. It doesn't hurt anyone. I'm Christian also.
