Don't worry so much about attracting people.

Speak truth. Teach truth. Advertise Bible studies. Use that as your promotion.

It's possible that only a few people will stick around for the long run; but at least you'll know that they are true believers.

First make sure God's Word is being taught and when people come in they only get God's Word and very little music and church tradition or church news. People come to church to learn about Jesus Christ and the church tells them how many sick people, what they've done, etc., etc. Have a church meeting on Wednesday or Thursday about what's going on in the church about church programs, etc.

People come to church for one reason and one reason only and that is to learn about Jesus Christ. Once a week for 52 weeks at one hour preaching teaches very little about the Lord. People are hungry for God and when they do get inside the church building, they hear everything but God.

If people come to church for any other reason than to learn about Christ Jesus, then they are coming for the wrong reason. Jesus said, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel." Jesus didn't say, set in the church pew, look pretty, be religiously correct. Christ wants us praying and learning the Word of God so we are equipped to preach the gospel in the world, in the work place, in the park, at the health club, on the golf course or just walking around the block.

When I see questions like this, I have to ask a question in return, and I hope that the people in your church will consider this issue.

I see churches that see small attendance and want more people to come.

Why do you want more people to come to your church? Do you care about the numbers, or do you care about these people as individuals and their needs and how you can help these people?

Then ask yourself, what does your church have to offer these people?

What would be the purpose of having more people in your church?

When you can answer these questions, you will find the reason to attract more people. But PLEASE, don't just try to get more people - they're not cattle, they are individuals. And many people get turned off by a church that is fast growing because it seems like those churches are only interested in getting more numbers (translation, more money).

So, if you want to help more lives, then find out what needs are out there in the community and how you can address those needs.

Sometimes I think we try to "market" church. Look at the passage in Acts about what the church was about, 1,000's came. "teaching the Word" , "Worship and Prayer" and "Fellowship". This is not to say that planning is wrong, it isn't. We just have to remember that it needs to stay all about Jesus- and when it is- people will come- not because of the programs but because of The Holy Spirit is working!!

If you teach the Bible, IN TRUTH, (hire a real Bible scholar, who can handle the manuscripts and languages) and teach it
literally line by line, verse by verse - I promise you that you will not be able to handle the crowd - you may have standing room only after the word gets out (no pun intended, but there anyway!!)
Hey, people are starving to death for the truth. The famine of the end times is NOT
for food, but for hearing the truth of Gods word (Amos 8).
If you are teaching Gods truths, I assure you that God will make certain your church thrives. I've seen it happen; oh, and those people who would be fed, they will make sure to support your church financially, because they want that spiritual food to keep on coming.
But you have to be sure you are teaching truth; not traditions of men, or church rules.
A teacher is what you need.

Where God guides, God provides. Just follow Jesus as your model and if the people come they come. If they don't then perhaps God is telling you to move on.

I really don't trust churches that are worried more about "making their numbers" than just teaching the Word of God.

Just let God guide you and He will Provide you with the people if it is His will.

Why would you want a church full of people that haven't made God the priority, but instead the donuts on Sunday or the movie nights on Saturday? Please don't make Jesus all cheezy with trendy little marketing ploys. That makes a church look and sound rather desperate for all the wrong, self serving reasons.

Outreach ministry, getting as many credible Bible Studies off the ground as possible, taught by dedicated spirit-filled saints at your church. Then with much prayer and fasting, you will see increase and abundance at your church.

Faithfulness. Faithfulness in prayer, in life and preaching. Remember, you are not promoting a church. You are preaching the Gospel. "So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is important because only God makes it grow." (1 Cor 3: 7). Be faithful and God will make it happen.

Do what the mainline evangelical churches(see Assemblies of God) do, and preach all the blessings of Christ without law and judgement/consequences of sin. Also, be sure to have a good program for the kids so parents can claim that they've helped raise their child spiritually, instead of actuallly doing it themselves. A church that preaches on sin and the wretchedness of man in comparison to an infinitely holy God will never have alot of parishoners. The true Gospel of Jesus Christ is offensive at first, for it attacks what keeps us from God: our own selfish desires.

Just be faithful to teach the Word of God and let the Holy Spirit yield the increase.
