Before a dvd can be played on any machine other than the one that recorded it the disc must be Finalised.

Basically this means that additional information has to be recorded regarding the content indexing, chapter information, duration, copyright info (if any), format of the recording etc. All of this has to be read by the player before it will accept that there is a legitimate disc present. That's why there is always a bit of a delay before a machine will play any dvd, even a commercial one.

Check that you have gone through the entire sequence of operations on your Panasonic before ejecting the recorded disc. Look out for any on-screen messages about Finalising. This can take 5 minutes or so to do after you've finished recording your programme.

Also, search the Book for details. In my experience Panasonic manuals are very good (mine are even written in English not roughly translated Japanese/American/pigeon).

The Panasonic machine will only record on specific disc types (check its book) but not all players will replay every type. You should be alright with DVD -R. This format is supported by Panasonic and is playable on almost any modern player.

Do not use the cheapo blanks that you can buy in the 'stacks' at PC World or Tesco though. These sometimes won't even record and you won't know until it's too late. Stick to proper 'brands' and you'll be ok. They may cost a bit more but at least they'll work.

Unfortunately, some dvd players are not happy playing any DVD -RW or +RW formated discs, including the ones in computers.

not sure, but you have to record & play back on either -RW or +RW, unless your model records on both, then play back on the recorder that handles either of those two types of discs...if that's not the case, & i'm sure no expert!! perhaps a computer cannot recognize a disc recorded on a dvd recorder?? just guessing...hope I didnt confuse you!!

Did you initialize and finalize the disc? Check your manual to find how.
