The word that I need help with is preparatoria. How would you explain that word in spanish? A defenition in spanish?
Are there any synonyms?

Yes you can also say: "Escuela abierta (o preparatoria)". I think you mean the schools opened at weekends for adults (las escuelas abiertas los fines de semana para los adultos)

Like JJ said, Preparatoria usually refers to Secondary schooling, this is also the case in some South American countries (definitely Ecuador). So, this would be grades 7 though 12. In the US, this is usually considered middle & high school.

If your preparatoria is C. Amercian, then it's equivalent to a secondary school in the UK (11/13 - 18 years of age) and would be Instituto (de segunda enseñanza) in Spain.

preparation, trainning, it´s something that is meant to be an aid before you do something...Is that clear?
