Should government dictate what we believe, teach our children, how we dress, what we eat, and what we can read, and what we can do?

I vote no! Thank you very much. The men in my family have always served our country and respected it's freedoms.

Hell NO! What we do is our business not the governments the Constitution is going out the window the four fathers created the Constitution to help us and it has until now until we are told what we can say dress and teach our children as well as our beliefs the whole point on America was to have our own beliefs not someone Else's and somehow America has forgotten that. My fiance is fighting for our country to protect and keep our freedom and I do NOT think the Government has any right to dictate what we believe, each our children, how we dress what we eat and what we read!

The United States Constitution guarantees the freedom to practice any religion of your choice, including 'none of the above'. It doesn't guarantee that the Government will subsidize the teaching of that religion. If you want to promote your faith and way of life, you must be prepared to do so through your own private resources. Public schools. public funds, public courts and governments facilities are NOT allowed to show partisan of any kind. Be very careful about taking offense just because YOUR preferences are being passed over.

How would you feel if this country was suddenly taken over by Islamic Law ? What makes it any less oppressive if just the type of religion in charge is changed ? Hiding behind Jesus is doing Him a disservice. He preached tolerance and love.
I get really upset when Christian fundamentalists ignore the Sermon on the Mount like it never existed. When is the last time you turned the other cheek and did what Jesus would really do ? In a society where they were reviled as traitors, He's the one who said that even Samaritans could be good.

The USA was founded to be a deliberately secular government. That way, no one state authorized religion could suppress any other faith, in the same way that led to war and bloodshed in Europe and other parts of the world. Don't be misled by the moneychangers inside your own temple.

But Debra, you are willing to allow the government to decide what should be considered "adult content" when it comes to movies and material that contains sexual and/or violent content.

So were the men in your family (as this control has existed for quite some time and they defended the government that insisted upon this power).

Can it not be argued that children lack the experience to make an informed decision when it comes to religious beliefs?

Especially considering the violence and bigotry and misogyny that is -sanctioned- in the Bible?

A four year old should be permitted to judge for him/her self what to believe?

I'd say the question you've raised can be reasonably argued.

i don't additionally be conscious of what he takes photos as we communicate at! What the he77 is the adaptation between a "civil society" and "government?" Any society that doesn't have any government should not be civilized for terribly long. "The Founders created a constrained government ..." definite, form of. A constrained FEDERAL government. yet with a view to be conscious of what "barriers" there are and there at the instant are not, we ought to examine the form and spot the history of ways that is been interpreted. "The Founders needed the human beings to be loose from our stable intentions." humorous how they did not say that, ever. it form of feels to me DeMint interprets the form regardless of way he needs to. i'm unlikely to assist any Republican who does not criticize the suitable court's ruling in Bush v. Gore and that i'm unlikely to assist any Democrat who does not criticize any of the various, many different circumstances of liberal judicial activism.

Absolutely not! The government should have NO hand in things like that...Religion is an individual choice and should be just that. Same with dress (although I maintain that in public, one's face MUST be showing), food, reading material, etc.

The government has no right to get into personal lives. They have no right to determine when I reproduce, who I sleep with, who I choose as my life mate, when I chose to stop life extending treatment or how I raise my children. I personally don't like the idea of indoctrinating children into religion because I feel it robs them of the right to determine for themselves, but that is MY choice, not the governments.

Genrally, i believe no. the government needs to stay out of religeon and spirituallity as much as possible. HOWEVER:

Some things like suicide cults need to be stopped. Mutliation of human beings should not be condoned ( circumcision, clitoris removal, branding etc,)
and lastly, Some things must be preserved, it is one thing for a grown adult to consent to free love and sex, another thing entirely for young children to be forced into such a life due to religeous law.

Freedom of choice must be maintained. and the children must be kept safe from harm.

No, definitely there should be the church and state separation. America, for the most part, does do a good job at it. Sometimes it's the smaller township local governments that do and make crazy laws.

agreed 100%. While I may not agree with a parents choices. I strongly believe the family is the foundation of society, and given the choice between some parents not doing as I would do,or a government usurping the parents role, the" lesser of two evils" would be to let parents make that choice

The government and religion should be separate. So, religious schools-OK, public school-no religion. The government should never interfere in the home.
