Why was Eve punished (after eating fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil) with immense pain during childbirth (a punishment passed on to all female offspring), yet after Cain had murdered Abel, God protected him (would punish anyone who murdered Cain sevenfold)?

Louisa, Punishment was death pain in childbirth was a consequence of sin, All of us, Cain included inherit sin and death. Their are circumstances of sin which Cain too had to deal with we all do but the punishment is death and that price was paid by God himself with the atonement. God is a spirit and we are joined to him spiritually all sinful flesh will die our faith is in the atonement and resurrection.

Both Eve and Cain were punished for their sin. And protected afterwards. But their lives were not the greatest. Eve ate the fruit that God said not to. She was punished by being thrown out of the garden and had to feel great pain during childbirth. Yet God protected her for hundreds of years so she and Adam would have a large family. She wasn't killed by wild animals, she had many children after Cain and Abel and Seth. Cain killed his brother and was punished by having to be banned from the soil. Cain could till the land all he wanted but it would never produce harvest for him. And he was to wander the earth until his death. You said that God protected him, this is true, that God would not have anyone kill Cain but that was only so Cain would live a long, hard life. Cain lived 100s years with no blessings from God. He had to wander all his life and could never produce food and have a settlement (home and family). This wasn't a nice life for him. God made him live a long time so he could suffer a long time. Not as a blessing.

Adam & Eve & the serpent were punished.

Cain was punished. He had a mark on him to protect him from others revenge for his sin, but he was cursed a wanderer by God. The earth/garden wouldn't produce for him anymore & he had raised crops. I think that this shows Gods mercy. There wasn't that many people on earth yet, so Cain was able to find a wife & have children.

To the woman God said that the womans seed would overcome the snakes deception (Genesis 3:15). Jesus fulfilled this. The sin nature is passed through the mans seed.

God protects everyone. But we reap what we sow. So there are conscequences to everyones wrong choices (sin). There are blessing for everyones right choices.

God put a mark on Cain. That is his punishment
Cain said unto the Lord My punishment is greater than I can bear. -Genesis 4:13.
Childbirth is easier. (Genesis 3:16) Plus Adam was punished look at his sorrow in Genesis 3:17-19!
Because of your wife! Adam was framed. LOL.

The most significant and lasting punishment for both Adam and Eve was to be banished from the Garden of Eden. That is very similar to the punishment for Cain who was banished to live away from God in the land of Nod (Nod meaning "wandering").

Cain wasn't punished? Read it again. Cain was only protected from being murdered.

Adam and Eve were both told consequences of sin; toil and burdening from work and child bearing. Eve was redeemed - if you look at it, it says that the "seed" of the woman would overcome the devil. Since woman was a vessel for sin, woman would also become a vessel for salvation. Since man brought sin, man would would also bring salvation. I think it's a prophecy for the messiah - Mary (a woman alone) brought Jesus into the world, then Jesus (a man alone) saved us.

Don't be so shortsighted! Cain was punished by being a recipient of the punishment that Eve got. He died after all!

God had a plan for Cain. And so God didn't kill him right off. Cain lived his days marked, somehow.

I believe that God forgave Cain, as he forgave Eve. It's just that death was their lot, as it has been ever since.

I think Cain was punished by the fact that he had to roam the earth with the guilt of murdering his brother. He was put under psychological torture, which is far worse than the pain of childbirth that goes away after the baby is born.

So I guess being a fugitive AND a vagabond for the rest of his life wasn't punishment enough? Also, Cain was a farmer. God decreed that the ground would not yield anything for him. Cain himself declared that his punishment was too great for him to bear. What version are you reading?

You need to read your Bible before you say God is against women. Genesis 4:11 And now art thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother's blood from thy hand; Genesis 4: 12 When thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength; a fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth. Genesis 4: 13 And Cain said unto the LORD, My punishment is greater than I can bear. Genesis 4: 14 Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the earth; and from thy face shall I be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth; and it shall come to pass, that every one that findeth me shall slay me. Genesis 4: 15 And the LORD said unto him, Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And the LORD set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him.
