A college loan repayment will typically take 10+ years.
Military service for college money is the carrot and stick syndrome. Enlist, take your chances that you survive (given the M.E. snafu), and then get out and go to college.
Either way has its drawbacks.

i think it depends on what you want to do with your life. if you join the military you are taking your chances with your life, a loan is the last thing you want to get. why don't you try to get some grants and scholarships first. get all the free money that you can first, then a loan only if you have too. i personally would not join the military just for money for school. i'm in the military now, but i didn't for the school money.

well it depends on what you plan to do for your future, umm well if you are willing to go war go ahead and sign up, it also depends on what branch of service you want to go into. the airforce seems most benefical because they send you to a tech school after basic training. but a college loan will get you to college but you will leave college in debt, in the serivce its absolutely free and you get benefits as military personal in the long run

if you are fit and brave (and maybe a bit crazy) join the military, its 4 years of combat drills and they pay for it all. that's a breeze!! i personally will not do it, because i do not fight unjust wars. but if college is more important to you than that, or if you believe in this crazy war, go join, kill some "Taliban" Iraqi civilians, and go to college for free.
or you can do what most regular people do, and pay for it when they can afford to go. there is no written law that says you have to go DIRECTLY after high school. its just what everyone thinks. if you take a few years off to get some real life experience, you might be able to get your finances in order to pay it out of pocket.

Have you considered a third option on getting involved with Americorps for two years? It will provide you with a stipend along with earning $4725 each year to use toward your college education. In the mean time, I recommend searching for scholarships Good luck!
