If they were never brainwashed when they were kids and not just told what to believe in a religion by their parents... how many Christians do you think there would be today?
Do you still think if would be a strong global religion?

Like let's say they made a new law where it's illegal to make your child go to church, or to force them to read a bible or anything like that. If it was up to the child to grow up and select THEIR own religion or lack of...

Personally I think Chrisitanity and all religion would fall and crumple pretty quickly. Religions are only fairy tales that we believed as a child because of fear of death and hell. The intelligent people then drop these beliefs after childhood. Unfortunately most humans aren't intelligent.

There probably still would be religion, it serves as an escape from reality for the mentally weak. Mortality is a difficult thing to accept and religion gives people an excuse to deny it. I think it's bloody sick how they brainwash children into joining their cult, they are vulnerable at such an impressionable age and telling a toddler that they will burn in hell for an eternity unless they abandon free thinking is down right twisted.

Here we go again with ignorant questions from people who don't read the Bible or believe in God. Why is it we are the ones brainwashed. Have you ever thought that maybe the world of science has brainwashed you into believing there is no God.
If you are as "intelligent"as you claim, then examine for yourself what is true. The fact is that by the way you put this question out, you numbered yourself among the unintelligent.
And we are almost at the point that worshiping God is a crime because of fascists like you. This country was founded with the Bible as a moral compass. Why is it that you don't want to follow moral and ethical guidelines that were set up in the Bible.
And not all religions use the fear of death or hell. So, what you are really wanting is for the government to outlaw Christianity not religion. Just as the Bible states in the book of Revelation, that there would be those who call good evil, and call evil good. Do some research for yourself so YOU don't look so ignorant next time.

i don't think of that is unavoidably "brainwashing." moms and dads tutor their toddlers the religion they have been taught, yet all of us make the alternative as to which faith or lack thereof, we sense maximum gentle with. If it does not sense acceptable, then we hit upon different innovations. all of us is given this hazard, however the only reason a lot of human beings decide for to easily have confidence in what their families have confidence is by the fact they are the two lazy or worried of the outcomes. human beings prefer something to have confidence in, for the main area, and believing what all of us else believes seems to be the least problematical decision. besides, there are a lot of people who declare "christianity" yet do not save on with the religion very heavily that it is an quite loose faith in immediately's society. As for the insanely religious bible-thumpers, nicely, they are vulnerable minded and afraid to be themselves. possibly they are brainwashed, yet only by potential of their own fears and inhibitions.

If they weren't brainwashed by their parents, they would probably end up going into it when they hit times or hardship. People want to think someone's there for them even if there is no one, so they think that 'Jesus' is going to help them through.

But if we were to do something like destroy all religious text and symbols and then wait about a hundred years without doing anything related to religion, the main religions would most certainly crumble.

Personally, I think there might be some difference in our view here.

Intelligence might not be the reason why one chose to stick with religion, but the fear instilled or the character of a person.

There are many highly intelligent people who remains as christians, but they are afraid to contravene the religion.

A religion is not a fairy tale. Different people are brought up differently in the faith. Some people mainly follow religion just because they fear hell and death. But some follow religion using common sense and it is never a burden from them. Also know one thing that there is a God and all things happen according to His will and not ours.

Quite the contrary; I think that if children were not encouraged to attend church and were streamlined into a Christian environment with Christian expectations, what you would end up with would be a stronger Christian following. Allow me to elaborate:
The vast majority of the children who grow up under the Christian faith attend church and proclaim their faith in a knee-jerk reaction because that is what is expected of them. Unfortunately many of those never truly experience the crisis of faith that is needed to make a true conversion to Christianity; they sort of float along in limbo being somewhat apathetic. The result is a tarnish on the face of the Christian faith. You wind up with large numbers of people who proclaim to be Christians, but in truth, they only pay lip service to the core of the faith.
If you eliminate these children from the mix, then what you are left with are people who genuinely come to a crisis in their life, turn to the Lord and experience Him completely. These people will become the real movers and shakers of the faith and will live according to His teachings.
Add to this the few children who may have been apathetic at first, but experience some point in their life where they truly come to realize what they had taken for granted for so long and then become real Christians in practice as well as in name.
What you wind up with is a Church that may not have as many numbers, but is very energetic, practices what it preaches and is fundamentally stronger. It would be a lean Gospel machine.

You don't know the Holy Spirit. Forget telling me that I must be believing in fairy tales, you don't know God. So it's your ignorance that you are displaying, not really anything about me. You obviously know very little about the word 'brainwashing', and are implying that there can only be a negative connotation to that word. What you are displaying is a brainwashing in the most negative sense of the word.

It sounds to me like you are saying more about your ignorance than anything about anyone else.

What a sweeping statement! Most humans aren't intelligent? Why? Because most humans believe in a higher power than themselves? Many things have happened since God invaded our lives, making us aware of His presence. Most of which involves trying to refute His existence. People have been trying it for millennia. Somehow, He just keeps on going... Maybe it's because most of those humans don't know they are too stupid to prove that Christian beliefs are unfounded. Or maybe it's true, after all.

It is every persons personal choice to believe or not to believe. These choices are made by the heart, and does not measure intelligence. Along with ANY belief system you are taught, respect for others should also be taught.
