Did you clear
History/Cookies/Trash Bin
Did you Defrag
Did you clean disk
Do you have a lot of audio and video files(if so, better copy on cd or dvd)
Do you have lot of programs installed? if so then you should check program which start with start up. They also slow pc.
If you want to check which program is running. Click on Start
in Run Type msconfig and click on Startup Tab you will find programs. Only un-check those program which you surely know otherwise do not touch. Or better make a memo if you need to re-check later.
After checking all above mentioned, check if you got enough space on hard drive. Also CHKDSK(check disk)if there is any problem?
If you still got problem last way, Restore system it is safe will not delete or harm in anyway.
I am sure this information will help you.

If you go on the internet a lot, you may have a lot of spyware on board right now. Spyware tends to be poorly written and causes a lot of bog-down. Run a spyware eliminator program, like AdAware from Lavasoft. I ran some on a friend's computer and there were over 780 pieces of spyware found. After these were dumped, the computer ran like it used to. This is in addition to the excellent advice posted by the other answerers here.

Download RegScrubXP--http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?d...
Safely cleans junk out of the Windows 2000/XP system registry. All changes made to the registry are fully restorable to it's original condition. You can make an exclusion list of registry entries that RegScrubXP will not display as problems. You can sift through a list of file extensions, company names, run upon startup programs, Internet Explorer history, and uninstall programs to delete what you think is junk.
Download CleanUp---http://www.stevengould.org/software/clea...
Free disk space, make your computer run better/faster and protect your privacy - all in one easy solution. All for free!
Now lets clean up your disk.
Run a Disk Cleanup 2 times a month. Run Disk Defrag. monthly.
Do a Disk Cleanup and Disk Defrag. You can find both of them by following the path below.
Start>all programs>accessories>system tools>Disk Cleanup. Let it do its thing. You can check every box that has something to delete.
Now follow the same path and do a Disk Defrag. Again just let it do its thing.

--------------------------------------------------------
I answered one almost like this
It worked for her.
In Internet explorer at top of window select tools - then delete browser history - then another box will open - select delete all- this will not remove your book marks -Then close explorer then open again .At first pages will be slow once and then will load fast after it loads 1 time. Also email etc you will have to sign in 1 time with pass word etc.
This will create new cookies.
Also go to start at bottom of on task bar.click start 1 time then select find or search depending on your operating system.Select all files and folders - then type in defrag and click search. When icons come up double click and new box will come up - select analyze then you will see how fragmented you are - then choose defrag. You can put this program on your desk top by right clicking on the icon you found in search for defrag.Right click choose create short cut. This will put a short cut on your desk top. Then you can use as needed in future.

it probably needs a defrag...
so right click c drive, then click properties then click tools then click disk defragmenter, then defragment the drive, it could take a long while depending on how big your hard drive is, and how fragmented it is, it took mine a whole night...
repeat that with other drives if you have partitioned the drive
