Go to Mexico. It doesn't really matter which part. It's all beautiful. I would check into an all inclusive resort, where everything is paid for. They have lots of activities. you get to go see ancient ruins, little towns that are still pretty primitive. There's scuba diving, snorkeling, parasailing, sailing, and so much more out there. With the white sand and the water constantly changing from blue to green. The sunsets are amazing, and there's always a party outside at night, with the last of the sun sinking into your skin, and a cool breeze ruffling your hair. There is absolutely nothing like it. The view, the smells, the euphoria of being in your own strip of paradise. Of course, my friend went to Disney World for her honeymoon. She loved it. Another friend went to Aspen. Brr. It should be either a place that you are both in love with, or a plave you've never been, but guarantees to be exciting. Romance is made in your heart not where you are. SO even if you take a week off to stay at home, take the phone off the hook and lock all the doors. You could go out to places within the city, that you've never visited. Play tourist. The advantages of honeymooning at home are endless. Figure you'd spend x amount of dollars on a honeymoon, you could spend half that at home, and still have a phenomonal time. Book table at an exclusive resturaunt. Go out dancing. learn something new. Pick up one of those erotic cook books, Erotic Cuisine by Nikki Jordan, Amanda Rochelle and Dominique Pierre, is a great place to start. You can order at home massages. Afterwards you can massage eachother, using different kinds of scented and flavored oils. The possibilities are endless. If you already have a destination in mind, and haven't planned anything yet... don't. You'll have the best time if you just go witht he flow. Be spontaneous. That way, you don't screw up any plans and anything unexpected is a bonus.

Try going to Colorado! Estes Park has some nice cabins or rustic inns that you can stay and just spend it hiking! The Rockies are so beautiful and if you love the outdoors its perfect! The food is good too, there's a place called penolope's that's a mom and pop place but the food is food and there is a nice italian place called mama rose's or something, also in town there's a nice wine shop where you can do wine tasting, it's been two years since I've been but the Rockies themselves don't change much! So beautiful!!

I've rented a houseboat and had such a great and peaceful time. They have rentals in dozens of states within driving distance of Illinois. Minnesota, would be my choice, but I like fishing.

There's plenty of lakes with restaurants on the water that let you pull up and dock for supper.

Houseboats are easy to pilot and the shallow draft lets you pull right up to shore. Take the time to find the right boat and lake, there are lots of dream boats out there for the same price as small houseboats, and some of the lakes are more private than others.

I have another one to add to your list.

Tell your family that you guys are going out of town and instead stay home and never leave the house. You can always sneak out for food.

Are there national parks close by that you can see? Or maybe go to a museum that you have been wanting to see but just haven't ever made the time for?

Our honeymoon was to our favorite places that we had gone to before. It was just extra special because I was going this time as the Mrs., not as girlfriend or fiance.

If you want something a little more traditional, go to Niagara Falls, but go to the Canadian side. You shouldn't need a passport to cross the border if you're driving, but the law is supposed to be changing soon. My husband proposed to me in Niagara Falls and it's beautiful. You don't have to stay in the actual Niagara Falls city, we drove through and fell in love with Niagara on the Lake. Looks a little more expensive, but it's very peaceful, you can still go see the falls, and it's romantic :)

Best of luck on your wedding && honeymoon, and congrats :)

Check the trave sited for each of the states around you. If you can go to Tennessee gatlenburg has a great mix of food shopping and the great out doors. You can even get married down there it is a big wedding town.

We have decided to elope too. We are going to Miami beach to elope and get married then we are going to the Port of Miami and going on a cruise to the Bahama's for 5 nights. If you decide on Miami I can email you the lady we are using. It is really great. She includes pictures in the package.

Caesars Pocono Palace has a package for two to get married on site, honeymoon suite, meals are included and it is a TON of fun. There are plenty of outdoor things to do (depending on the time of year) biking, boating, horseback riding, golfing, skiing, swimming (there are also pools/jacuzzi's in the rooms) and they have awesome entertainment each night.
