I'm flying withing the US this afternoon and I'm wondering about the gel inserts in my sneakers. Are they going to make me remove them? They are the Dr. Scholl's ones.....you know "I'm gellin". They are difficult to insert and remove. I'm wondering if I should just do it at home or will they not care?

No, the shoes will go through the X-ray machine for inspection.

Direct from the TSA website: "Gel shoe inserts - Gel shoe inserts are not permitted, but shoes constructed with gel heels are allowed and must be removed and screened."

In other words, *No*. That said, the TSA is not the most consistent of agencies. But honestly, I'd take 'em out & leave them at home, because chances are you'll get the one guy who enforces the rule, and you'll end up having to remove them & throw them away.

I do fly on occasion, and I never had to remove my inserts. But you do have to put the shoes through the x-ray machine.

They wont take the gel from yours shoes, just your shoes. Remember they scan the shoes, the gel is complete clear and is made by a shoes brand. And remember there a list of thing you shouldnt take with you on a travel and this is not one of them. So, be calm. Travel with comfort shoes or sandals, more easy to take off.

No, they wont take them, or make you take them apart. You'll have to take them off to put through the x-ray machine though, so make sure they slip off quickly.

Also, don't wear too much jewelry, it can make the metal detector go off. Remember, nothing bigger then 3 oz bottles, and INSIDE a zip lock baggie. take extra bags, they break.

Please read the TSA.gov web site
http://www.tsa.gov/311/311-carry-ons.shtm
This specifically lists gels for for medical or cosmetic reasons they will allow through but it needs to be brought to the attention of the security folks.
